Your Position

Are you in the banking arena, the health service industries, perhaps you tend livestock or run a small storefront operation, a homemaker, we all hold positions, and that place is relative to how people see us, the perception of who we are is generally view by others as what we do for an income. The clothes that we wear while we are performing these tasks, or on our way to and from them, is also relative to their perceptions of us, what they see, they believe us to be.

It is very easy to fool, if you will, the general public, put on a three piece suit the next time you head off to work as a plumber, wear the dingiest at home work clothes you have the next time you are on the subway to your office job, it can be rather amusing to see their faces, it is quite effortless to presume one thing upon others when in fact we are not what we represent on the outside whatsoever. We are not what we wear, what we drive, these are not of course pleasures that we should deny ourselves if they are not displeasing to the Lord, if they in no way create animosity or envy in others eyes by our willful desires, if you have been blessed with the wherewithal to wear a nice three piece suit every day, by all means do so, it is in humility that we are to walk, not seeking anything for our selfish desires, but to honor the Lord.

I can tell you how you could garner quite a bit of attention if you like though, and more than just a few odd looks, wear a white robe, you know, similar to the one that will adorn you in the kingdom of God, that will start a conversation or two. Personally, I believe our robes are for special occasions in heaven, those days that we will be in the presence of God Almighty, the rest of the time we will wear what we please, makes you wonder if there are different “shops” in the New Jerusalem, doesn’t it. I believe this because when we stand in the presence of the Creator of all that is, we must be in our best attire, that which is proper in the Kings court, and this apparel is meant specifically for these occasions.

But if you would for just a moment, I would like you to envision that robe upon you all the time, covering your armor, (Eph. 6:10-17) everywhere you go it is upon you, and then tell me, how does that make you feel, honored that you serve the only One who could give that robe to you, humble beyond anything you ever imagined that He would see fit to place it upon you, confident in the service that He has placed before you. An ambassador of the kingdom of God is always on the job, there are no break times, no times for rest, the job is all encompassing and more than important, it is a privilege beyond all comprehension to represent the King of Glory. Those around you will not see the attire that you wear, but not all those that are around us are of the material realm only, are they my friends.

I will say this as politely as I can, which my lovely wife says I still need some practice at, but just how embarrassed are some of the angels of God and just how pleased are the servants of Satan when they see a child of the Most High God walking around with shabby spiritual clothes on, an attire that in no way is honoring to the Lord Jesus Christ. We are chosen, we are a set apart people, we hold higher positions than the presidents, prime ministers and leaders of the known world, and we walk around with our heads down, mumbling an occasional “Praise God,” or a “Thank the Lord” when we are to be walking in the convictions and assuredness that we are ambassadors from the Kingdom that will rule all other Kingdoms for all eternity.

If indeed you are a born-again believer, if you are as best you can to the fullest of your God-given abilities serving Christ with all your heart, then you are one of the highest ranking people on this planet, and in great humility we should serve with all of our being. “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” (Gal. 5:13) How can you place before them the greatest gift ever given to man if you are not confident in the offering of that gift, how can you help them to see that this confidence that you are walking in is available to all who will but ask if you do not exude both assuredness and humility at the same time. What we have been blessed with, we are to offer to others, and we are to offer it to them with our heads held up high, knowing that it is not us that can give this great gift of the love of Jesus Christ to them, but we have been chosen to present it to them.

No one is going to listen to a half-hearted Christian, no one is going to pay any attention to someone who is dressed in spiritual rags that is trying to offer them the riches of heaven, a proper servant when he is sent is assured in the tasks that have been set before him, and holds his head up high in the knowledge that what is being presented is the truth, and that all the promises of it are assured, he humbles himself only in the fact that he has been privileged to be sent on such a tremendous, life changing task, and stands in the confidence that whom he serves is faithful. He will not in any way intentionally displease his Master, he will do all that he is asked to do, and beyond if it will bring glory to his Lord, and he will return home with a good report. He will serve well.

If you have been saved by the grace of God through Jesus Christ, you hold the highest position that can be held on this planet, none is above it. The knowledge of this truth must bring a type of humility that few will ever know, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:” (1st Peter 5:6) The assurance that you have been sent by the Almighty God to tell others of the love that He has for them in His most precious Son Jesus Christ is beyond all of our comprehensions, we, my brothers and sisters in Christ, are not worthy of that honor. But we have been sent, and we will go where we have been sent, for we love Him who first loved us. (1st John 4:19)

“But as many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” (John 1:12) We are not only servants, but sons, and a wise and loving son never dishonors his Father, but strives always to be submissive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. This is a strange balance my friends, to walk in a confidence that cannot be compared to anything here on earth, and to do so in a humility that the world will never understand, we are indeed a blessed people. Your position is of the highest caliber possible, but it will serve no one if that service is not done in love.

“And above all these things put on charity, [love] which is the bond of perfectness.” (Col. 3:14) Without love, we are nothing, all that we do will be to no avail, the love that Jesus Christ has given to us is to be shared with others, and the sharing of that love with others must be done in the confidence that He who has blessed us with it is true and faithful. Your position is in Christ, act accordingly to that position.

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)
