“Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works.” (Psalm 119:27)
You have to ask, and you have to ask for the right reasons.
The pearls of God are not to be cast before swine, and He is not going to reveal His truths to you just because you want to know, this is the mistake of many who are professors of theology, to them the faith of one is no different than the faith of another, they can see the difference between what the cult of Romanism teaches and what the Buddhist believe, but they study only for the sake of knowing.
“I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.” (Prov. 8:17)
When we read the Scriptures, we are to hide as much of the truths of it in our heart as we can, reciting memory verses does not always indicate one who has been born-again.
I do not put much stock in habits, the Holy Spirit almost always works in a spontaneous way, and those who form habits most generally over time become callous in those set upon times, and if they are not careful, those moments when we are studying the Scriptures will become a burden to us, because this is the time we read, and this is for how long we read.
Remind you of the standardized church service or the mid-week Bible study any?
Why would you go into your closet if you are praying without ceasing?
“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” (2nd Tim. 3:5)
You have to ask, you have to ask the Almighty to teach you and you can have only one reason for wanting to ask in the first place, that the Most High would be glorified.
“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” (Heb. 13:15)
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” (Psalm 100:4)
One of the reasons that you are not going to meet many who are wise in the will of God is because most do not want to be wise in that regard, they know that a burden will be placed upon them, their employment fields, their family and friends, even their own wants will need to take a backseat to His will in their lives, and I do not know if you have noticed this or not, but those who have diligently and fervently prayed for wisdom for that singular purpose are well versed in correcting, reproving and rebuking, and few there are that appreciate those things when they occur in their lives from the wise.
You have to want it, you have to want Him above all else, nothing can come before the Lord Jesus Christ if you have set your face like a flint for His glory.
“My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.” (James 3:1)
That was a warning my friends, and you would be wise to heed it.
The Lord our God is willing to give anyone who asks the keys to His treasure house, but it will cost you everything.
“Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 3:12)
Some of Paul’s last words before being taken home, a man that was used mightily for the glory of God, sent to proclaim the majesty of the Lord Jesus Christ. I do not know if the words spoken to Ananias were ever heard by Paul, but if they were, those first words that perhaps caused a form of great fear within him, were looked upon much differently as he spoke his last words.
“For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.” (Acts 9:16)
The twenty minute sermon on Sunday morning and the similar routine followed in that midweek Bible study will not bring you to the place you might want to be. If you want to go there, you have to ask.
Are you sure that is what you want?
