Wise As Serpents

“For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.” (Prov. 24:6)

What do you do to pass the time, what you might consider a hobby, something that you enjoy whose main purpose is for relaxation?

My lovely wife enjoys Sudoku puzzles, each evening she spends a few minutes on them, and she enjoys that time. To me they are as a foreign language.

The many counselors that we are to surround ourselves with are not to be those necessarily wiser than us, they do not even need to profess faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, but they must have a singular focus, they must be extremely proficient in the subject they profess to know.

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” (Psalm 14:1)

You can learn much my friends from these fools, not often anything of eternal value, but they are wise in the ways of the world, and in this sense, they can be a benefit to us in regard to Proverb 21:12a,

“The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked:”

We have several channels on our subscription YouTube list, each of them individuals who, to put it plainly, know what they are talking about, and do hours of research into the fields they have chosen for themselves. It is not being conformed to the world, it is watching and learning what our adversary is doing, how he is being allowed more free reign in the affairs of mankind, and how easily some are being deceived into believing his lies.

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (1st Cor. 10:31)

I do not have any hobbies anymore, I have no free time for them, I, as many others have in these evil days, have been called to a specific task, and those tasks the Almighty has seen fit to trust me with consume me. As such, I have asked for and received many counselors, not only those who do not call Him Lord, those whose information offers me the opportunity to, so to speak, keep track of what our adversary is doing, but many godly men as well. They have arrived in my life by way of books, and if memory serves me in this, the most recent ones were written by a man who died more than a half century ago. Some of these books go back hundreds of years, all of them were written by men who served the Most High in fear and trembling.

The Word of God of course, by the blessings of Spiritual discernment of the Holy Spirit, is my mainstay, if you will, there is no other book written by the Almighty, and it is where we should always go first for counsel, for wisdom, knowledge and truth.

“How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103)

It is the only book that will help you to relax, for the promises are true, and He is faithful that wrote it. It will encourage you to seek His face daily, to contemplate it at length. His Word will reveal all you need to know about the temporal and the eternal, about the ways of the wicked, and the path the justified are to walk, the past, present and future all meet in the Scriptures.

Those lost men I listen to offer little of eternal value, but they are wise in the ways of the world.

“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.” (1st Cor. 3:19)

It is not their wisdom I seek, I am not attempting to employ any of it into my life, but my friends, if you do not learn about your enemy, your enemy will have an advantage over you.

Many have inadvertently become trapped here, their focus shifts from the eternal to those temporal matters. Use caution here, for many counselors can also offer the opportunity to be deceived.

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” (Matt. 10:16)
