Why Would We Choose To?

Evil spirits are mentioned quite a bit in the Scriptures, the Lord sending one to King Saul, (1 Sam. 19:9) the man who lived in the cemetery in Gergesenes, (Matt. 8:28) how many hundreds, perhaps thousands that Christ cast out of people while He was here. They are not gone, not by a long shot, although as I have mentioned in earlier letters to you, I believe they inhabit many of those that are now in positions of power, not the façade of power in most governments, but upon those who actually run those governments, along with other organizations that run this planet.

My point is not so much about demonic possession in this letter to you, it is in a sense the inverse of that possession, the possession that every born-again believer is to be under. Demons take control, complete and full control, but I believe that there are many who are aware of this when that control comes upon them, it is difficult to turn down the world and all that is in it for most people, but should not those who have fulfilled Galatians 2:20, those in whom the Holy Spirit has come to live within be under the same type of control.

I am positive that I am missing something here, this is in a sense one of those “tip of the tongue” type of letters, but since we do have the Holy Spirit of the Most High God within us, why are we not submitting fully to His leading, why do we not allow full control of every part of us. He could of course do a much better job than we could ever hope to in glorifying the Lord God, He is God after all, so He knows much more than we do about that task. I believe it is because our free will matters to Him, not just in the sense that once we are saved we can go about just being who we were before our salvation, but enough to let us “take the reins” as it were for the direction of our lives.

Demons don’t do that, at least not in most of the accounts we have in the Scriptures, “Throw them in the fire” type of control is what they do, but as I said, there must be a type of cooperation in that end of the spectrum also, not a sell your soul to the devil type of thing, for all soul’s are Gods (Eze. 18:4) yet even those who will die in their sins have the free will to choose. Our cooperation, or lack thereof, is the factor for how much the Holy Spirit controls our lives, we are the ones that make that decision only because the Lord allows us to. “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” (Gal. 5:17)

This is continuous because of our free will. Not because of our sinful nature, to a degree that also can be abated, regulated if you like by the free will that we have been blessed with. So why then, why does the Lord just not take control and get the job done that we were created to do.

Once we come to Christ, the moment that the Holy Spirit enters into us, we belong to God, eternally, and we are given a measure of faith. (Romans 12:3) I do not know that measure, I do not know if it is the same for each of us, but I do know that it is all we need to accomplish a life’s worth of work for our Lord, the question is, do we do that willingly, do we all complete the tasks, are we all constantly filled with the Holy Spirit, and if so, which I doubt, who are those that quench the Spirit, and how did they do that.

At this point in my walk with the Savior the only answer I have is free will, we are just as filled with the Holy Spirit as any individual is with a demon when they are possessed, the Holy Spirit is infinitely more powerful than any spirit, for He is God, yet we can thwart and hinder His desires and work within us is we so choose to. Why we would choose to is the question.

There are several items I would ask you to consider before you click on the Donate button.

1.    Please pray carefully about donating; “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (2nd Cor. 9:7)

2.    Your first responsibility is to the Lord; “Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase”: (Prov. 3:9)

3.    You must consider your family after your first responsibility; “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1st Tim. 5:8)

4.    If you determine that you have been blessed by this ministry and decide to donate, please know this, your donations will be accepted with great thanks, and all the glory will go to God.
