What is it that you want the Lord to save you from, I speak to those who understand that He has already saved us from our sins, I speak to those that will indeed by His grace enter into the kingdom of heaven, so then, what next, what in this life do you want Him to save you from next?
It was not enough for the children of Israel to be freed from the house of bondage, they wanted more, food, water, they did not want the leadership of Moses, we always want more, from the person living on the street who finds in the trashcan what they consider a useful item, to the richest, wealthiest individual who has found the last item no longer fulfills his wants. I am as guilty as the next man, though much less than I use to be, but there is occasionally still “that thing,” and I can find a hundred different reasons to justify obtaining it.
For some, I do not believe that we count our home that is to be as not worth waiting for, we do not dismiss the miracle of our salvation, of being chosen by the Almighty Himself to live with Him forever, but it is a matter of patience and self-control.
My beautiful wife and I are experiencing the same thing that I am sure many of you are going through at the moment, the continuation of sameness, with the knowledge that it will not be modified in any foreseeable future. I miss seeing the smile on her face that used to come from being blessed to travel to different places on the planet, for they were rare and therefore treasured, but we have determined to not wear the masks or take the vaccine, and so, more than likely, those days are over. Sameness has become the norm, and with it the challenge of patience.
We are beginning in earnest to understand Luke 21:19, “In your patience possess ye your souls.” There is a balancing point that must be given strict attention to at all times, for as those who walked in the wilderness for forty years knew that they would not enter into the promised land, we know that we will probably never set foot in any of those places that we so much enjoyed each other’s company in. The other end of the spectrum is that we cannot contemplate continuously on the “When we get home it will be better” mentality either, for we are aware that that path will lead to hatred of the life we have been blessed with in these moments. These times are the perfect opportunity to “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) For, at least for us, the old song line has become truth, “I believe I can see the future, because I repeat the same routine.”
To attempt to find contentment outside of service to the Lord will every time bring only temporary respite from the mundane, and eventually will lead to apathy, anger, frustration, and then some form of rebellion. Those of you who at times have felt trapped, so to speak, by the current evil and ridiculous laws in relation to travel across the planet understand full well what I am speaking of, “You can go and do whatever you want, as long as you obey our new rules.” What Satan is attempting to do, and is succeeding in, is the removal of personal freedoms, and he does not care one bit whether you know the truth of that or not.
If you want the Lord to save you from this ever-increasing mess, this approaching evil by bringing the rapture, I understand, but each day that passes by that the glorious moment does not happen is the opportunity for you to seek exactly what inside of you that you want Him to save you from. I would suggest something here, instead of asking Him to save you, instead of asking Him to remove the burden of your heart, the anxiety of your mind, the trials and tribulations that surround you, no matter what they are, why don’t you instead take His yoke, (Matt. 11:29) why not instead ask Him not to take the burden, but to help you carry it. Maybe you will not start rejoicing right away, but you might find just enough patience in your soul to get through today, and enough courage because of Him to face tomorrow.
