“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” (1 Cor. 1:18)
If you want them to know the truths of the Word of God, if you love them, if you love Jesus, then you are the one that needs to initiate the conversation about Christ, I can pretty much guarantee you that they will not. They will speak about the weather, the current events, what they saw on the television or internet, they will discuss at length any and all subjects, but they will not bring up the name of the Savior.
You must.
There are those that are seeking His face of course, not by their own volition though, for John 6:44 is a truth, “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” and in those times the Lord will have prepared their heart to listen to the words that He would have you to say, but many times those we are conversing with are not in the least desirable of speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ, much less their soul. They have places to go, people to see and things to do, there is far too much in the world that is now than to be concerned with the one to come.
The thing is, where they are heading if they do not repent is where they will spend eternity, there will be no escape, and you know that. It is why I mention so often that you must be able to see them on fire, screaming in anguish and pain, helpless forever.
The call must also come with fervency, with immediacy, they must be told the truth, and that responsibility has been laid upon your shoulders. Far too many who claim Jesus Christ as their personal Savior keep Him just that, personal, they do not reach out to a lost world, they do not speak of Him in public, they will not tell those that they love and meet daily of the One who gave His life for all mankind. And those people my friends are not going to ask you about Him if they do not see Him in you.
To repent means to turn 180 degrees from what you were before Christ, and those who knew you before the cross should be able to see that, it should make them question what happened to you, and if you are not willing to tell them about the Lord Jesus and how He is working a great work in you, how are you being conformed into the image of the Son of God, how your sins have been forgiven and you now live a life devoted to the glory of God, then you need to question yourself. Are you truly saved, or have you been deceiving yourself all this time? “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!” (1 Cor. 9:16)
Perhaps you believe that the preaching spoken of here means standing behind the pulpit every Sunday morning, that preaching is the job of the preacher, or pastor, or minister, maybe you think that going into all the world is the responsibility of the missionary, or that traveling preacher who goes from town to town with a big tent. Perhaps you do not “feel called” to spread the gospel, that you are not fit to, that you do not know enough of the Scriptures to expound upon them to others.
Perhaps you are embarrassed and truly do not love the Lord Jesus, but like to think you do.
You say you serve Him, but you will not speak of Him, you will not initiate any conversations about Him, you will not talk to people about the One you believe you serve.
“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?” (Matt. 7:22)
It’s really quite simple to find out who is saved by the grace of God through faith in Christ, and who are the “good people,” simply start speaking of Christ. No one who is truly born-again can help but to speak of Him, the joy is quite easily seen, the love they have for Him, and the care they have for you cannot be missed. Are you or are you not doing that?
