I have found that witnessing of the Lord Jesus Christ to those who have no real idea of who He is, is much easier than it is to those who have been corrupted by a religious organization.
The truth of the Word of God is not lost in translation to them, for they know next to nothing about it. They of course have heard of the word “God,” but they have no idea of who He is, they have heard the name of Jesus Christ, mostly as a curse word from others, but they do not know of Him anymore than that, and as for the Holy Spirit, their mind at best envisions some kind of a ghost.
Those who are trapped by religious organizations, who were raised in a particular church, and yes, that can also mean what is considered an Evangelical association, can be just as deceived by that organization as they are by the world. They cannot blame their pastor or priest; they can lay the blame at no ones feet but themselves. “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.” (Proverbs 8:17)
Those I speak of here today though have not just a very limited knowledge of the Lord, but sometimes none at all, they understand nothing that you are attempting to expound to them as you fulfill your duties and try to reach the lost. At that moment in their lives, they are the wicked, those that the wrath of God abides on, just like you were once. Do not expect a miraculous conversion on your first meeting with them but treat that time as if it may be the only time that you will ever encounter that person again, no matter if they are just traveling through town or if you work alongside them every day, the hour of their death may be in the next hour after you speak to them.
I have never felt as if I am putting the Most High “on the spot,” if you will, when I say these words to people, “Test Him.” Ask Him to do something that will prove to you that He does exist, that He alone is the Sovereign Lord of all creation. Do not make it something ridiculous like asking Him to turn the sky green, or some other fanciful miracle, but instead make it personal, something so personal that only you know about it, and then prepare your heart.
I honestly believe that this, if done solely for the reason that the truth of His existence will be made known to them is honoring unto the Lord, and I believe that He will answer them. How they respond is up to them.
Now, obviously if you know this person and see them on a fairly regular basis, I would not suggest this course of action, but you do as the Lord is leading you to do, but I would suggest that if you are sure you will never see this person again in this life, I would highly recommend it. But there is something else you must consider here, if it is someone that you see often, sooner or later one of two things will happen, they will begin to question, they will want to know more, or they will, sometimes not so politely, tell you to drop the subject of Christ altogether.
Here then is where you may need to apply Matthew 7:6, “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.”
Those who are completely ignorant of the Word of God you will need to start at the very beginning, and at the same time where they are in their lives today, and this is why we not only should study human nature, but the Scriptures. If they want to know who Jesus Christ is, I believe you can rest assured that He is not going to show up and speak with them, He has entrusted you to do that.
