Try It, See What Happens

“Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.” (Gen. 13:9)

He looked out over the green and fertile plains where the city of Sodom and Gomorrah sat and chose that area. Then, in time, he pitched his tent facing Sodom, and later moved into the town itself.

Two strangers that he pleaded with not to abide in the street all night, but to enter into his house, and there he made them a feast. When the crowd of evil, lustful men could not have what they wanted, he offered them his own daughters, which he said were virgins, yet then went to attempt to coerce his sons-in-law to leave the city as well.

Yet, when it was time to leave, he resisted, and all four of them as well, for they had to be taken by the hand of the angels and drug out of town.

“Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:” (Gen. 19:19)

So, to Zoar instead, and then leaving there not long after, apparently with at least a few bottles of wine, which his own daughters, who for some reason thought there were no more men on the earth, coerced him into drinking, thus bringing about the Moabites and the children of Ammon.

And for some reason that no one has ever been able to figure out, the Holy Spirit through Peter called this man a righteous man.

“For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;” (2nd Peter 2:8)

A man consumed by the lust of the world, with the desire for recognition by the world, accepted by it as one of their own. Willing to sacrifice his own two daughters for the sake of two complete strangers, having to be pulled from destruction, and that against his will.

Would you call this man righteous?

Peter had to be shown something about Lot that has not been revealed to anyone else, and we, by faith, are to accept what was written for us about this man we would consider as one of the world.

How far can we fall my friends? How much needs to be removed from us before we will return?

Lot, as Job did, lost everything, there was no place left to go but to the Almighty, and so we must believe those words penned by Peter, Lot was a righteous man who made some very bad decisions in his life.

How much do you believe you can get away with before the Almighty decides to intervene in your life, how far into the world can you go before He steps in and alters the path that you have set before yourself?

“What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?” (Luke 15:4)

How many of those lost sheep need to be drug back?

If you truly have been born again and believe that you can set your tent facing the world and not be enticed by it, that you can move into the world and not be coerced by it, go ahead and try that, see what happens. If you think the Living God is going to allow you to besmirch His Holy name in that way, think again.

Lot went further than many of us have ever attempted to go, he was a righteous man, the Word of God says so, and he was taught a very serious lesson.

“Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.” (1st Cor. 10:11)

“And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.” (1st John 5:19)

You and I live in Sodom, no matter where you reside at on this planet. The question for you must be this then, which direction does the tent of your heart face? If you are hid in Christ I can guarantee you this, if it is facing the wrong direction, the Lord will definitely reveal that to you.

2.    Your first responsibility is to the Lord; “Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase”: (Prov. 3:9)

3.    You must consider your family after your first responsibility; “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1st Tim. 5:8)
