If a nuclear bomb is dropped anywhere on the planet tomorrow, guess what nearly everyone will be talking about. Adjusted revenues for every station and media outlet site will grow exponentially. If a major true pandemic is set free, if another nation starts a war, any worldwide event that captures the attention of the majority of the planet is what will be spoken about by nearly everyone on the planet the next day.
“Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” (Psalm 107:8)
What you listened to in the sermon last Sunday, are you still contemplating it, are you still discussing what was revealed to you around the dinner table on Thursday. Have you studied all the relevant verses in context about the subject that was brought up last Sunday?
How many people have you spoken to this week about the Lord Jesus Christ and the salvation He offers to all who will call upon Him, who will repent, fall at His knees and call Him Lord of all?
There were only two thoughts on the minds of the first century Christians, repentance and the resurrection, and all who would listen they would speak to, it was not just the news of the day, but of decades. “He is risen” was their cry. “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” (1 Cor. 13:12)
Is that a frightening thought to some of you, are you known as a hard worker, or a worker for Christ, are you the storyteller around the water cooler, or the teller of the accounts in the Scriptures, have you memorized Scripture verses or sports statistics? What’s the big news of the day that you can’t wait to tell others about, something fleeting and temporal, or something eternal?
In heaven, though I could be wrong, I doubt very much that the conversations will revolve around what we did here, whether it be those selfish, secular things or what we did for the glory of God, they may come up occasionally in passing, but they will hold little meaning.
I ask this question of you today, if you are blessed to be a part of the Rapture, do you think you will turn around to look at the planet earth below you? My beautiful wife immediately said something akin to “I’m not going to take my eyes off the Savior.” “Remember Lot’s wife.” (Luke 17:32) “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62)
The big news of the day is the same news that it was the day it happened, He is risen, Jesus Christ has defeated death to the glory of God the Father, the free gift of salvation is available to all who will call upon His name. The world, Satan’s world wants you to not just forget that, but treat it as if it’s old news, to keep your attention on what the media says is important today, until you are told to think differently.
What “earth shattering” event can you think of that happened in the last fifty years are you still contemplating, still consumed with, still speaking about to nearly everyone you meet, and will you speak about it five hundred years from today?
“He is risen.”
That is the news for today, it has always been the only news worth repeating for nearly 2,000 years now. Do not let the deceptions and diversions that come nearly every hour divert your attention from what it is to be on, glorifying God by reaching out to a lost world, to your neighbor, on spreading the good news of the salvation offered to all who will heed the call, of encouraging your brothers and sisters in Christ.
Let the world of the lost follow the lost world, you stay on the path, you remember the only news of the day worth repeating.
