If you were born in the year 1221, you would just now be reaching towards the end of your life here on earth if you had the length of life that Adam had. That’s a long time, comparatively speaking, but it isn’t really all that long, not compared to eternity.
Many of what the world prefers to call the elites spend much of their fortunes in the same manner as those of all the ages past have, searching for a way to make the body stop deteriorating, looking for the Fountain of Youth. “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (Psalm 16:11) Only those who know Jesus Christ as Savior have found that fountain, although the elites and all those who don’t know Him yet as Lord will also live forever.
This is one of the main truths of the Word of God, nobody dies, everybody lives forever, they just won’t believe it because it’s not in this reality, if you will, that they will exist, they know where they’re going, and so they do all they can to stay here. I’ve always found it interesting how many people will say they believe in ghosts, but not in the afterlife, they see the one that has died as going somewhere, they just don’t know where. They know the truth of Hebrews 9:27, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” but they don’t want to think about it, because there is no concrete evidence for it.
With nearly eight billion people on the planet, even if one came back from the dead and gave their account, which has been purported at times by some, they will not believe, just like Abraham said to the rich man. (Luke 16:31) They need to see for themselves, they need to experience firsthand the place of eternal rest. We don’t, “The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17) If you are one of the justified, if you are truly living in the faith of Jesus Christ as Lord, then you don’t need proof, you already have it, it is called faith and belief in the promises of the Word of God. It is not hope alone, it is assurance, it is a fact, you will go there when you die, heaven will be your eternal home.
This is one of the reasons the lost see us as insane, this is why the Roman Catholic cult hates us, this is why we are not like any other human beings on the planet, because our citizenship is not of this planet. (Phil. 3:20) There is only one reason that we exist, to glorify God, and there are only two reasons that you should want to stay here on earth, to reach out to those who are still lost, and to edify those who are also citizens of our homeland, all else is just passing time, so to speak.
Adam knew what death meant, his son was killed by one of his other sons, I am fairly sure that during his 800 years or so of life that others also died, he knew that his time would arrive, but I don’t think that he spent a lot of time trying to evade that moment that will come upon all men. I mean this in no offense, but if there was ever anyone that was one hundred percent certain of the existence of God, it was Adam, and so he may have been the one to fear death the least.
Just one more day, one more hour, just one more minute, that is what nearly all of mankind has wanted, and those who are continuing to search for that Fountain of Youth, that means to live forever, cannot understand that He who created them has been offering it to them all along.
