They Should Be Afraid

“Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matt. 28:20)

If you mention to most people that God is always watching them, you will not hear, “Well, that’s a blessing.” What you will see if you are observant is fear in their eyes, a nervous twitch in their face or body movements, usually followed by a slight smile, an anxious laugh and all that in just a few short moments.

For in that moment, they know what you have said is truth, they know they will be held accountable, and they hope He forgives, that He will understand, that He will have mercy. And then they will go back to their lives and forget all about Him.

“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Heb. 10:31)

I know for a fact that the Almighty is watching me all the time, He sees all I do, He knows every thought I have, because I have the Holy Spirit within me, and He is God. I do not fear His wrath, for Romans 8:1 is a truth.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1)

I do not fear His chastisement, for Hebrews 12:6 is also a truth, and so I know He does so in love.

“For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”

The consequences for my actions, even my thoughts that I decide to follow that I should not I expect and accept, for this also is for our growth.

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” (Phil. 3:10)

The fear of the Lord is reverential trust in Him and a hatred of evil, not fear of eternal damnation, not fear of being cast away, not fear in any form that causes distress within us, save in this truth, that we have dishonored His Holy name.

The wicked fear and rightfully so, for there is a day arriving for them that they realize as truth as well as the one who said, “What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?” (Matt. 8:29)

Yet they refuse to hear, they refuse to repent, they refuse to accept the truth that they are not now nor ever will be good enough to be accepted into His Kingdom. They smile, they laugh, they say how they’re not that bad, and then they forget about Him.

Every person in hell right now knows these words to be truth, every person on their way there will know them as truth one day also, your responsibility is to speak His truths to them.

“When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.” (Eze. 3:18)

I am going to let you decide if the Almighty puts people in your path that you are expected to talk to about Him, I am going to let you figure out if the Holy Spirit is telling you to speak to those you meet who do not have His Spirit within them.

Each circumstance is different, but know this, if you have been born-again, everywhere you go, everything you do, God is with you. And if the Holy Spirit prompts you, leads you, suggests to you, whatever terminology you care to use, to speak to that person and you do not for whatever excuse you care to use, a reason as you would call it, then you will have to give an account of why you did not.

“These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.” (Psalm 50:21)

They fear the Living God, they are afraid of Him, and rightfully so, you are not to be, but do not think you will not be held accountable my friends. Rewards can be lost, removed, crowns withheld, these are reserved for those who are never embarrassed for His name, who speak openly and boldly about the One they love above all others, who do not back down when it comes to the truths of His words.

“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Heb. 10:31)

That is for them.

“Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.” (Isaiah 49:16)

That’s for you.

Tell them why they should be afraid, and then tell them why you do not fear.
