“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Prov. 14:12) Ask anyone you know who is a Roman Catholic if they believe that the faith they serve is a dead faith, one based on works, ask a Mormon if their faith is a lie, if they serve another Jesus besides the One in the Scriptures, ask anyone anywhere on this planet that believes in any other words of truth than those found in the Scriptures, and they will tell you that they are right and you are wrong, because in their mind the way they have chosen to follow is the right way.
When Christian and Hopeful in the book “Pilgrim’s Progress” decided to walk just on the other side of the stone wall because the path was so rocky and uneven where they had been traveling, it seemed like the right thing to do, after all, they could see the path they should be on just on the other side of the wall, for a while. My friends, it will be a rare day indeed when you meet someone who believes in anything but says that it is wrong to believe in it, it probably is not going to happen.
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Heb. 4:12) Notice that last part, and who is it referring to, not just to you, but to all men. When you meet these individuals who are so sure of what they believe in, and you know it to be incorrect, your responsibility, your duty as an ambassador of the kingdom of the Most High, is to pull your sword out, to show them the truths of the Word of God and where they are in error. This is not a rubber or plastic toy sword, it is not meant to slap people with, it is used to cut, to cause damage, and it is as all swords are, a weapon of war.
These people who believe themselves to be right, when we know for a fact that they are wrong, are allowed to make up their own mind, but that does not excuse you from what you have been sent to do, to show them the truth. If you are not studying to show yourself approved, (2 Tim. 2:15) if you have not hidden God’s word in your heart, (Psalm 119:11) then your sword is either rusty or non-existent. The only other possible options are that you are either too fearful, and therefore unprofitable, or you are not saved. Even a small child can say, “Jesus loves me, and He loves you too.”
They all believe something, every lost soul and everyone who only professes Christ on Sunday morning, they all believe in something, and at least most of them are not afraid to say so. I meet far more people in religious cults, those who are lost, the heathen, backbiters and haters of God and His anointed that are more than willing to stand up for what they believe in public than I do brothers and sisters in Christ, and to put it bluntly, it sickens me.
The way that seems right to a man is not the way of God, He demands obedience, and He will accept nothing less than complete obedience. Many believe that grace means not needing to stay on the path, and far too many forget that Jesus is God, the same God of the Old Testament who ensured, in ways not best for men, they would say, that obedience is required of all men. “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” (Micah 6:8)
There is no choice here, there is no other path, there is the way of life and there is a way of eternal death. My friends, you cannot be wrong here, if your sword is not out and ready at all times, you will fall to the enemy, and that enemy, those people that are sure that they are on the right path, will fight tooth and nail to the death to stand for what they believe in. Only the Word of God can defeat them, your best efforts will avail nothing. But before you decide to start this endeavor, you may want to pull that two-edged sword out, and turn it towards yourself, just to make sure that you are on the right path.
