And when you wake up in the morning, do it again, and the next day, and the day after that. Every moment of every day until the moment of your last breath on this planet.
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)
Obedience to the will and Word of God is not a suggestion, it is a commandment.
“And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.” (2nd John 1:6)
The one who has studied to show himself approved, who has been crucified with Christ understands that the Law was fulfilled by Him on the cross, we are no more required to adhere to the Ten Commandments as we are to not muzzle the oxen who treads the corn, we are not commanded to offer upon an alter a lamb or turtledove. The final and perfect sacrifice of the Holy One of God has accomplished the Law in totality for us.
I have met many people who believe they must adhere to the Sabbath, whether it be Saturday or Sunday in their minds, who will not accept the truth of Romans 14:5, “One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.”
Those who believe they should not eat certain foods. “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (1st Cor. 10:31)
Who say we must adhere to the Ten Commandments, yet no man ever born save for our Lord ever could. People who think that if they are not baptized the Almighty will reject the sacrifice of His Son because they did not do their part and get dunked under the water, who believe babies must be sprinkled, who believe the parts of the Law they want to believe are still required by them to make them acceptable to the Living God.
“For there is no respect of persons with God.” (Romans 2:11)
He does not respect one single work of yours when it comes to His salvation requirements.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Eph. 2:8-9)
If you believe you must adhere to, and continue in, day after day after day the same portion of the Law to ensure and maintain your salvation or you will be cast aside, you are not saved.
One of the worst things that could happen in the minds of those who thought about following Christ was that if they did so, they would be cast out of the Synagogue, today the “new Law,” the imperative seems to be “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Heb. 10:25)
Today, if one is not polite, they are not Christlike, if one judges with righteous judgment, they are rude, if they correct or reprove, they are instigators of incorrect behavior. And day after day after day these attempt to live by some form of the Law, or laws they have envisioned, made up, in an attempt to be Christ followers.
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” (Gal. 6:2)
Even love can be turned into a Law, enabling instead of rebuking, seeing the evil and not speaking against it, for that would seem unloving, having the knowledge that one who claims to serve the Lord Jesus Christ is living in sin, yet staying silent for fear of the loss of their supposed love.
Nice and polite, that is the new Law, not holy and righteous.
And day after day they keep these burdens on their backs that were not placed there by the Lord.
“But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?” (Gal. 4:9)
No one who has come to the cross of Christ goes back to the mountain to receive the Law, but far too many believe that if they do not adhere to some part of it, the parts they pick and choose themselves, then they will not be accepted in the Beloved. They do not believe in the sufficiency of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of their soul.
And all who do so will not see His Kingdom.
