“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” (Psalm 14:1)
I do not suffer fools well, perhaps it is a fault of mine, but I am to have no long-standing, personal relationship with those who are of the darkness. I am not to cast the pearls of God before swine, allow them into my house or to bid them godspeed. I am commanded to treat them as Gentiles, and so those that deny Him whom I serve I do not suffer well.
I am commanded also to love my enemies, which I do in my actions toward them, but not in my heart, for they are the enemies of the Living God, and I cannot love in my heart those that are the darkness I am not to share my life with.
This brings up the need for this verse then.
“For many are called, but few are chosen.” (Mat. 22:14)
I am part of the few, so then those who are not, the many who are not called, are the fools, and in that group of fools are those who only profess Him with their lips, who are following false prophets, false religious organizations, not only those who deny the existence of the Living God.
Most everyone my friends are fools.
They are the brute beasts, they are those who have been beguiled, bewitched, deceived, full of pride and self-righteousness. At best they perform what they consider good works if there is even a modicum of belief that the Almighty exists, at worst they deny Him openly, or follow cults that have constructed a god of their own design. And I do not suffer them well.
Not immediately of course, we are to test the Spirits, questioning those we meet about what they believe, listening to the answer when you say to them, “Who do you say Jesus Christ is?” And then not leaving it at that, but delving further into what they consider the foundation of their belief structure, their faith. If they are indeed your brother or sister in Christ, one who has been born-again, they will gladly speak of Him whom you serve, and fulfill 1st Peter 3:15.
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”
If not, you will hear excuses, and they will reason through them, offering you what you know are lies and deception. They have then proven themselves fools, and all the pleading I do with them will avail nothing.
And so, I put those pearls back in my pocket, bid them “Good day,” but not godspeed. I do not count my time with them as wasted, the Lord placed them in front of me for a reason, and I have learned that more are convicted to continue in the lies they believe, than convicted by the Holy Spirit towards the truths spoken to them. And so I suffer them no more, and adhere to their desires to not darken their path again.
They have no desire to step into the light, and that is their choice. By them I am counted as contentious, as unbending, of not being friendly, but stuck in my ways. They cannot understand those of us who refuse to move off the Rock of our salvation, but they also do not understand that the truths we have offered them were given in love, and when we release them to go about their foolish lives, we are also doing so in love.
My friends, the watchman on the walls continuous warning is of eternal damnation, and there are many who will never heed the call. We start the conversation in love, and we end it in love, but we never move from that rock, in love, but always with firm truths from the Word of God.
“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.” (John 15:18)
Nearly every person on this planet will hate you, for few are chosen.
The One we love is worth that price.
