Every nation on this planet has in place laws, rules and regulations that are in their basest terminology meant to maintain a form of civil socialization, to keep the chaos at bay. Order must be maintained, some form of normalcy must be established, the mob must not rule. With the disobedience of these laws comes punishment, and it is as varied as there are laws, the punishment of one infraction is not the standard for another, and much will be taken into consideration on each individual for each infraction. The wealthy in the world do not pay the same fine, as it were, as the poor, the indigent will perform jail time while the rich will not, there is very little similitude in the laws of man.
They are built in stages, both physically and morally, the one who runs a stop sign does not receive the same punishment as the one who maliciously uses their vehicle as a weapon, we see in our moral construct the rapist and abuser of small children as deviant, beyond comprehension. And yet not one infraction, whether it be morally based or physically rendered, will receive one form of punishment if the committer of the crime is not apprehended.
The laws are of course completely irrelevant in the eyes of Him who sees all, the punishment will be enacted. But we must once again look at the root of any matter to understand its reasoning, and in this, those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord will live in eternity with Him, those who will not acknowledge His Lordship will spend forever in hell, the lake of fire. But what of the punishments, are they equal, is the fire of eternal damnation hotter for Judas Iscariot than it is for the lost neighbor down the street who just died. “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.” (Matt. 23:14)
The punishment with the Almighty upon His rebellious creation will fit the crime perfectly, no more will be laid upon the unrepentant sinner in eternity than is necessary for the offense, but not one iota will be held back, there is no pity, no mercy, no love on those who have determined that His Son the Lord Jesus Christ was not worthy of their love and acceptance. As to the level of pain of hopelessness of all that men and fallen demons are to receive, only the Lord can say, for only He is worthy of such decrees. In our minds, we see the most notorious as deserving of the greater infliction of sorrows, but the difficulty with that lies in the knowledge that the sweetest grandmother who would not accept Christ as Lord is also deserving of the eternal damnation that awaits all the lost.
It is the juncture that shows the truth of Isaiah 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.” Every sin that every person has committed against the Most High was paid for in full by Jesus Christ on the cross, the unbearable pain of the full wrath of God upon Him is and always will be incomprehensible to every living soul. For those who will not acknowledge the deed, this most pivotal point in the history of creation, there will be great pain and sorrow, their sins will not be forgiven, they will pay in full for their great infraction. Man’s punishments for laws broken are set by men, the scale is relative to the crime, but is determined by many factors, some good and noble, some, not so much. The rate and severity laid upon the lost throughout eternity for their sins only the Lord God knows, but His decisions will be Holy, perfect, and just.
I know only one fact, and I know it only as a man, the complete and perfect knowledge of their punishment will be known to them, and the one that will stand out the most, the one that will override the pain, the sorrow, the suffering, will be the truth of the complete and total hopelessness, the truth that God is real, that He is Sovereign, that He is not listening, and never will.
