It takes very little to find a false prophet these days, granted, they have always been with us, but the ability to locate one thanks to the advent of the internet, has grown exponentially. Why do they do what they do, quite simple, “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Romans 3:18) Why do so many follow them, simple, because they are the simple ones, “How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?” (Prov. 1:22) They will grab at any straw, and they have spent very little time studying the Word of God.
“When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.” (Deut. 18:22) How many times? Once. No leniency is allowed here, for this person is presuming to speak for the Lord God, and doing so in the first place is in grave error.
There are no more “future telling” events to occur, Paul told us by the power of the Holy Spirit that these would pass away. (1 Cor. 13:8) When? When the entire Words of God were revealed. (Deut. 29:29) One cannot prophesy about what has already occurred, these are why the words of Christ in Matthew 24 and other places are the foretelling of future events that will occur, at best we can expound on them, and then only with great care and fear. They are called signs, and those who speak otherwise are speaking in ignorance of the truths of Scripture.
There have always been charlatans, the deceivers who will lead the flock astray, for they care not for the souls of men, (2 John 1:7) but only for their gainful pleasures. Those who are professing future events, those who prophesy in the name of the Lord in this venue, are liars, and they have determined unto themselves why they are doing so. These will receive their reward, but those rewards are not waiting in the kingdom of God, for they will never see those gates. If even one of their fortune telling events does not occur, they are to be left, never to be listened to again, so then, why do so many continue to follow these individuals and religious organizations, why are some people so easily deceived. Because they are looking for something, and they are willing to follow anyone if what they are looking for is promised to them. It takes very little to appear holy to some people, the Roman Catholic organization is a prime example of this, and millions over the ages have fallen into their trap.
Whether it is an individual or a large organization, the right words said at the right time, the appearance of the speaker, even to the garb that they wear, all of them are deceivers. “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” (2 Tim. 3:5) The thing is, they know what they are doing, they know they have “lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,” (2 Tim. 3:6) and they do not care, the point is to gain the whole world, (Matt. 16:26) whatever form that world takes and by whatever means necessary. Some are led by Satan, some by their own lusts, but all have one thing in common, they are deceivers. They have both been deceived and are self-deceived, they are liars, and so their father is the devil.
The power struggle game that they play is no different than the reason that wars are waged, for their own lusts. (James 4:1) They are no different than the bully on the playground, once the taste of power is known, they can be very difficult to defeat, yet many of them have learned that true power is not in the sword, but in the manipulation of the mind, and in this they are very well versed. It matters not if it is the Roman Catholic institution, the Mormons, or the man who has a following of only a few, they are cults, they do not glorify Jesus Christ as Lord, they do not profess that He alone is the way to salvation, they teach the traditions of man above the truths of the Scriptures, and they will prophecy of future events even after the knowledge that we have the completed inerrant Word of God at our disposal.
The word prophecy has only one meaning for us today, the proper expounding on the truths contained in the Scriptures, not the foretelling of future events. No one has been given new revelations concerning the Almighty’s plan for this planet, all that the Lord has to say to us has been recorded, anyone who speaks otherwise is an antichrist. (1 John 2:22) Wisdom still cries at the gates my friends, do not pass by without hearing the truth, do not remain one of the simple ones. “Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.” (Jer. 17:5)
