A potentiometer is a device built to modulate the voltage sent to a particular item, when the dial is to the left, there is no voltage being applied, as it is turned to the right, incrementally voltage is allowed to travel through it to that item, when it is all the way to the right, the entire amount of electricity allowed is sent to the item connected to it.
“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;” (Col. 1:9)
You my friends are that potentiometer, you are the one that controls the dial for how much of the Holy Spirit, and thereby the blessings of God will come into your life, all the electrical current that is available is waiting on the input side of that meter, all you have to do is turn the dial, all you have to do is submit fully to His will and the blessings will flow unheeded.
So then, if that dial goes from zero to ten, what have you got it set on today?
Everything is waiting for you, the Almighty is waiting on you, infinite joy and serious persecutions await, peace beyond all understanding and frustrations that will vex you constantly, all you need to do is submit to His will for His glory, all you have to do is turn the dial.
Fear is what keeps most people from doing so, the desire to be profitable places their hand upon that dial, wants them to go to their knees and say, “Take my life, do with it what you will, thy will be done,” but the fear of possible interruptions to the plans they have made for their life stays their hand, inconveniences that may cause them to miss out on what they want, rejection, trials, tribulations, persecutions may come upon them, adverse conditions they would just as soon not see might enter into their life.
And so, they say they love Him with all their heart, but keep the dial at one or two.
When they get to heaven, for these are indeed born-again believers, they will expect rewards, to be shown the treasures they thought they stored up there.
So much love offered and so little of it accepted, so sad.
Call them the perpetually weaker brother or sister if it makes you feel better, say to them, “Oh, I know you’re trying,” but realize the truth, they have chosen self and this world over complete submission to the will of God in their life, and they have done so out of a fear of how He may decide to use them for His glory.
These, my friends, will not find their names written in the hall of faith, they are saved, they are loved, but they are not profitable. They are not dead to self and more than likely never will be.
Think of the numbers on that dial in this way, each one after the former one says how much you love the Lord, no one is at zero, for only the saved have one, but how many are at one or two, and how many are at ten?
You set it, where do you want it set at, and what are you going to do about it? Willing and doing are not the same thing.
