Rewards

What are you doing with your life here on this earth in the area of rewards for the next life, what tasks do you perform here that you believe are going to earn you rewards from the Lord upon your arrival in His kingdom?

Far too many who profess Christ today see their stewardship as one of the material blessings that God has blessed them with, and left it just as that, things of the world only. They have taken Colossians 3:23, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the LORD, and not unto men;” and have placed it at the top of their priority list in the area of stewardship, working diligently to procure items to be responsible over, applying themselves to their employment area even unto the loss of time with their families. They see the things of the material world as blessings from the Lord, and rightly so, but this is where their stewardship ends, only with those things that come from the world.

I would ask a question of you here, do you really believe that the Lord has a reward for you because you were good at your job, because you made sure that the yard was mowed, the sidewalks were shoveled, the roof didn’t leak and the car ran fine? Do you think that because you spent the majority of your life concentrating on the gifts of the material world that you have fulfilled the stewardship responsibilities that He has placed before you? “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” (1st Tim. 6:7) All of the things that you have worked for the entirety of your life are going to stay right here when you leave this earth my friends, so just how much effort do you think you should put into those things.

Yes , most definitely, these material possessions are a blessing from the Lord, and should be cared for as such, for they all belong to Him, but the proper care of them is not going to earn anyone any rewards in heaven, and you will not be commended because you performed your job requirements as specified by your employer, because you vacuumed the carpet every other day does not earn you a prize in heaven. “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (1st Peter 4:10) Good stewards of what? The manifold grace of God, now how are we to be stewards over unmerited favor? By showing others the grace that we ourselves have received. We are the stewards of the grace of God.

“Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.” (1st Cor. 4:1) Here is what we are to be the stewards of, this is what you will be rewarded for, if indeed you are a good steward. The children of God are the ones that have been entrusted with the Word of God, the mysteries of His wonders, and to receive rewards, one must offer these Words to others, there are, as you have heard me say in the past, no rewards in heaven for good intentions. What you have been untrusted with you are to give to others, but always with wise discretion, we are to be faithful in our stewardship, (1st Cor. 4:2) and in that faithfulness we are to be wise.

I would like you to give some serious thought to what our Lord is offering you here, this blessing comes only upon those who are willing to let the things of the world go, to see no more value in them than what they have been intended for, the temporal. Are they to be used to bless others when possible, yes, are they going bring someone to Christ, no, only the Word of God and the will of God can do that, but they can be used as a starting point. What we have been entrusted with that truly matters are the things of the eternal, those items that will last for all of eternity, the Word of God and the people that we are speaking to that accept Him as Lord. “He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.” (Matt. 13:11) To those that we are sent, we are to speak, and to those that will listen, we are to expound on the mysteries of the kingdom, but to those to whom it is not given to know of the Words of God, we must know when to stop speaking, we are not to throw our pearls before swine. (Matt. 7:6)

Every single thing that you have in this world has been given to you by the Lord, and every one of those items are going to be left behind when you leave this earth.  Do not think that God is going to reward you with heavenly gifts because you took care of your earthly items, when you did not take care of your first responsibility, His Word. These mysteries are hidden only to the lost, we of the children of God have no excuse for not sharing them as we should, what we have been given, we are responsible for, an if we are not, we have not been shown to be good stewards. “Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” (Col. 1:26) What has been manifested to the followers of Jesus Christ, what are we to be good stewards of, what are we to share with others, Jesus Christ.

“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.” (Prov. 25:2) You are well aware of how to search out this matter, you must open the Word of God every day, you must seek His face in every area of your Life, and all that you do must be for the glory of God. What we have been given is an incredible gift, we have been made to know thru the power of the Holy Spirit the oracles, the mysteries of God, we are stewards of the wonders of the mercy, grace and truth of the Lord Jesus Christ. You can find no greater reason to place all second to Christ, we are ambassadors sent to a lost world, our citizenship is not of this world, and we have been sent out, we have been blessed to be the stewards of the truths of His glorious word to reach a lost world.

We have been given a secret, (Rom. 16:25) a secret that we are to guard will all our heart, but one that we are to share when commanded to. It is required of stewards to be found faithful, and for this faithfulness, there are rewards waiting, our hearts are to be impenetrable to earthly riches, they are to be taken care of, but our stewardship of the truths of the Word of God is much more important than making sure the car runs, or that our job will be there tomorrow. For those who are seeking first the kingdom of God, these are simple words to understand.
