Satan has always only wanted one thing, to be God, to be like the Most High in all of His attributes, but in none of His character traits. Power always assumes a worship nature, those below the abilities of them are to see these as worthy of honor, praise, and recognition. Man has of course perfected this nature, many there are that hold positions of authority over others that have laid claim to pride, simply because they hold knowledge in a particular field that is more relevant to the task that they are performing.
I have held these positions; I have exerted my so-called authority in ways that have been demeaning to those who were under my supervision. Any that have ever held such a position have fallen into this trap, those who are in authority rarely exhibit humility, it is in our nature to be pride filled. Most generally, these individuals will shudder at the approach of their supervisors, and so it goes, all the way up the ladder. At the top of that ladder of course is Almighty God, there are no further rungs, there is only one God. But Satan will not accept that, when he approaches the throne of the Most High, he does not do so in abject adoration and fear, there is no humility in him, but in iniquity he arrives, boastful, proud, as an equal he dares to speak to the Creator of all reality.
He is, for all intensive purposes after the Godhead, the most powerful being ever created, and that one word is the word that he hates above all others, created. “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?” (Romans 9:20) Satan did, and continues to. Since he cannot be God, since he is well aware that he cannot defeat the Most High, that His throne will never be given to another, he is more than enraged, he is angered beyond any expression of the word in any human language. And so he will do all that he can to be like the Most High, (Isaiah 14:14) but with a twist, if you will, in every effort of the word.
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; the anti-christ, the beast, and the false prophet; three days in the tomb, nearly decapitated, and the arising three days later, teaching thru false religious systems the cross, but adding that it was not quite enough, works of our own design must be added to that glorious moment. He is the father of lies, there is no truth in him, (John 8:44) and we are gullible. Adam, the most perfect man outside of Christ, could not stand against him, Solomon, the wisest man ever to live, fell into his traps, “Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.” (Jude 1:9)
Satan serves only Satan, and only grudgingly and with great hatred serves the will of God. Everything he does is done with malicious intent and a great desire to dishonor or destroy all that the Most High has designed, and he has done much, you and I are living proof of that, all who have ever lived are. Not only are we daily attempting to be led by the Holy Spirit out of a love for the Lord Jesus, but we are assailed on every side by the adversary, we fight our flesh, we struggle against our old sinful nature, and we battle demonic forces, everyday of our lives. No wonder the Savior told us to enter into His rest, (Matt. 11:28) no wonder we are told to “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Eph. 6:11) To take His yoke, (Matt. 11:29) no wonder that we should have the great desire to die to self, there is no human possibility to stand in the face of these truths, in the face of these adversities.
If you attempt to go up against any of these foes yourself, you will fail, that is a guarantee, if you do not seek for Spiritual wisdom, you will fall, if your faith does not rest fully upon the solid rock that is Jesus Christ, then you will be crushed. We respect Satan, but we do not fear him, for “greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4) A half-truth is a full-blown lie, subtlety is the main weapon, be as wise as serpents and gentle as doves, if you do not prepare for the attacks, you will fall. “Be strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.” (1 Sam. 4:9)
