Perhaps today. Perhaps today will be the day that I fly away home, that either by death or the Rapture I will no longer experience the physical pains that assail my body each day, the frustrations of my mind as the battle with the flesh rages on unabated, ebbing and flowing like waves of the sea.
Perhaps today will be the last day that I will need to suffer fools who deny our Savior, who mock and ridicule, who believe there are other ways into the Kingdom of the Living God beside solely trusting and believing on the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of their soul.
“For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:” (Phil. 1:23)
It is difficult to think about dying when there are still billions of people on the wide path to hell, when there are still people, neighbors who if they die today will suffer eternal torment, when there are so many brothers and sisters in Christ who need to know the wisdom that has been imparted to you, who desire to hear the truths of the Word of God expounded to them in love.
“Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 3:12)
The tasks that the Almighty has set before each of us for His glory will be fully completed by us before we are called home, nothing that He has given us to do will be left undone.
“By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.” (Heb. 11:4)
But we will never feel as if we have done enough; in this life my friends we will never see the completed fruits of our labors for the Lord.
When time permits, if I may phrase it like that, I would like to spend time speaking with men of God who were led to write books for Him that were written hundreds of years ago that I have read. They still speak to us who are here serving the Lord, and in some form, those who will remain on this earth after you have gone home will carry on the work that was set before you.
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” (James 1:22)
Those who sit in the stands and simply watch the sporting event offer little to nothing to those on the field, those who are on the field realize they are performing for those in the stands, and without realizing this truth, they would be engaged in the sport solely for selfish reasons.
All who have been born-again have in some way been called to reach out to others with the message of salvation, whether to the masses or to a singular person, none of us are to hide His Word in our hearts and keep it there to ourselves. Perhaps today will be the last opportunity for you to do that, perhaps today you will be required to give your account as to how you served your King, how you spoke to others of His love for them.
“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1st Cor. 15:55)
I believe that those who profess to serve the Almighty, yet fear death because of that moment of accounting, are those, in many cases, who do not go out into all the world to seek for the lost, who will not speak of Him in public places, who fear the reproaches of men, who are embarrassed for His name.
Perhaps today is a frightening thought to them.
Nearly every day we have an opportunity to speak to someone about the wonders of the Living God, of the unspeakable joy that awaits all who have put their trust in Him, there is rarely a day that passes by that the opportunity to do so does not arrive.
So then, my friends, in the context of giving your account to the Lord, does perhaps today bring joy to you, or frighten you?
