Perfect Rest

“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10)

In those moments of being still, we find that peace that passes all understanding, we rest in the assurance of our salvation, of His promises, in His love for us that will know no end. In those moments of stillness before Him we can possess our souls in patience and realize in the depth of our being the joy of being in His presence.

And then we must continue in the truth of Genesis 3:19.

“In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”

Then the trials return, the temptations begin once again to assail us, the flesh, our old nature, resurfaces and the battle rages on.

Moments of pure peace, rare and far between, encapsulated by a singular want, a desire above all else, to be gone from this evil world, to be free of the flesh, to be in the presence of the Risen Lamb, and to realize the truth of Psalm 16:11.

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

The lust of the flesh and of the eyes, the pride of life, evil abounding, temptations at every turn, thoughts not attuned continuously to His will, a mind that is not fully captive for Christ. Submitting to the promptings of the Holy Spirit only sporadically, needing to toil for money so that the basic needs can be met.

The unrepentant are not burdened with these truths, to them there is one plain and simple fact, do the best you can, gain as much as is possible, and hope for the best when the day of dying arrives.

We do not have that luxury, we are servants of the Living God, we have had commandments pressed upon us, and we willingly obey them while seeking each day for ways to exalt His name above the heavens. We are pilgrims here, this is not our home, and we do not treat it as such, but we must live in it.

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)

And so, the Almighty, knowing our burdens better than we do ourselves, offers us a respite at times, calls us to enter into His presence and be still.

There is where He reveals His eternal plans for us, to give us a good end, there is where we are set free from the cares and burdens of this world, of our lives in it. There the promises are clearly seen.

“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” (Phil. 4:4)

In our current time my friends it could be considered similar to a recharging station, not so much to give us the strength to carry on for His glory, not as some foolishly interpret a revival, but as the receiving of the promises yet to come. There is great hope to be found in being still before the Lord. As the old hymnist put it, “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.”

This is more than prayer, there are no words when we are still, it may be, though these are only my personal thoughts, the closest we may ever come in this life to actually finding that which we seek each day, the face of God.

If you have been blessed to be there, in that perfect stillness, then you know that all the words of this short letter to you have done it no justice. Just you and the Savior, in the garden, in perfect peace.

I hope that you have been encouraged by this letter today, and I pray that you will sit before Him in perfect stillness as often as possible. There is where perfect rest for our soul waits.

There are several items I would ask you to consider before you click on the Donate button.

1.    Please pray carefully about donating; “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (2nd Cor. 9:7)

2.    Your first responsibility is to the Lord; “Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase”: (Prov. 3:9)

3.    You must consider your family after your first responsibility; “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1st Tim. 5:8)

4.    If you determine that you have been blessed by this ministry and decide to donate, please know this, your donations will be accepted with great thanks, and all the glory will go to God.
