You are not going to be loved anymore than you are right now, the love that you are loved with by the Lord is the love that He has for His Son Jesus, and that can never grow more than what it was in the beginning.
Here is the fallacy of many who call Jesus Lord, they believe that their actions will increase His love for them, and their inactions, even their sins, will decrease that love. If you truly are born-again, and you turn your back on Him, you will still be loved with the same love that you were when you were obedient, that love at the cross you knew that day will never diminish, nor will it grow, it is everlasting, unchangeable, and knows no limits. Here is one of the reasons that Paul said we were not to use the grace given to us as an advantage, (1 Peter 2:16) that we were never to think more highly of ourselves than we should. (Romans 12:3)
There seems to be a line for many Christians, one is of works, even by those who understand that we have been saved by grace, (Eph. 2:8) but those works they attempt are so that He will continue to love us, not in fear of chastisement, but just to make sure, if you will, that they do not fall from the good graces of His love for them. For others, it is fear itself, if they do wrong, if they sin, then God will punish them, it will not be His wrath that will fall upon them, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1) But they may catch a bad cold, or have a flat tire, or some other calamity may befall them. Both of these groups forget one thing, “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” (Jer. 31:3)
I know that a lot of you do not like to contemplate this, for it goes against our human nature to think thus, but when God looks at us, He does not see us, but His Son. We are in the beloved, (Eph. 1:6) we are covered in the blood of Christ, not something that many hear on Sunday morning anymore, it is the blood of Christ that has saved us from the wrath of God, from eternal punishment. And that blood was spilled for us because of love.
I love my wonderful wife, she is the most precious person to me on this planet, but I do not love her as much as I love the Lord. She sacrifices for me constantly, but she does not do it only because she loves me, but for the Lord Jesus.
Now, you must understand this, if you sin, and you leave that sin unrepented of, you will be punished, call it chastised if you like, but it means the same thing, any loving father understands this. Sin in our lives is what keeps the Lord from blessing us, but it does not keep Him from loving us, we are His children, we are being conformed into the image of His Son, (Romans 8:29) therefore all punishment that may befall us is always done in and for love.
Few that have been born-again can comprehend these words, they either live in fear of chastisement, and so their works are not done in love, but because of fear of punishment, while others will work hoping to gain more favor, more love than what they believe they now possess. These intellectual constructs within man have been an excellent tool for Satan down through the ages, for both of them are the paths of bondage. “I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” (John 17:23)
You cannot be loved more than you are, that love cannot be earned, no works that you do will increase it, no inactions or even sins will decrease that everlasting love. It is and always will be. Hopefully now you can understand 1 John 4:18 a little better. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”
