“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:7)
This peace rests in assurance, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ rests in assurance. The promises of the Word of God to those who abide in Christ, trusting in the Lord with all your heart, believing that He will never leave you or forsake you, all these rest in assurance.
The Word of God is true, everything recorded from the past in it and all the promises given, there are no errors, no contradictions, no lies. This truth offers to all who will believe it a peace that cannot be described fully or understood completely by those that receive it, it is offered to all but only given to those that have trusted in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of their soul.
It is why so many corrupt versions of the Scriptures have been concocted, it is why the Roman Catholic cult would not allow those who followed them to read it for themselves, it is why many have been killed by them.
The truth sets a man free, and with that freedom comes the indescribable peace from the Almighty. We who have been born-again cannot earn this peace, yet we are to seek for it, it is often offered through tribulation.
“And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:” (Romans 5:3-4)
Those who have been tried and remain in the trust of the Lord understand this peace, those who have walked in the valley of the shadow of death, who have been in the storm, who have lost all hope and then found it at the foot of the cross, these know a peace that few will ever know.
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Gal. 2:20)
It is necessary for every works-based cult to never allow this peace to be known, to never allow it to be realized, for they will lose their grip of bondage upon that person. A hierarchy of faith, so to speak, must be maintained, a ladder one must climb, secrets to be learned, the knowledge that only certain few are allowed to attain to must be the order, or the common man may find that assurance of faith, and be free indeed.
“Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matt. 7:14)
The chastisement of the Lord upon those He has called to Himself brings this peace, for we know then that we are not bastards. Here the lie of the Charismatic cult is revealed,
“If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:” (2nd Tim 2:12)
“I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:” (Isaiah 45:5)
The cult of Mormonism loses all hope in the revelation of this truth. The knowledge of the Sovereignty of the Living God brings peace, for we are safe in His hands.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1) Assurance.
“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” (John 10:28) Peace beyond all understanding.
Those who are still trapped by the Law do not know this peace, they do not understand grace. Those who believe they must go through the days of Jacob’s Troubles have no assurance of these truths. Those who believe they must continue to be “good” will never be good enough and will never know the peace spoken of here.
If you lean on your own understanding, if you do not die to self, if you trust in anything or anyone instead of the sufficiency of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation, you will never know this peace.
If you do not leave everything in His capable hands, you will know no assurance.
