Patient Anticipation

When was the last time you can recall that you were in a hurry, a rush to serve the Lord? I could be incorrect here, but I am going to guess that for quite a few people it was the last time they were late for church.

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” (Psalm 100:4)

Several times a week I come down those stairs to pick up my pen and notebook, sometimes in dread, other times in a great rush, but each time I stare at the blank page in front of me and wait. Nearly every time I have no clue whatsoever as to what I am going to write, but each time, whether it be in dread or great anticipation, I start with these words.

“That you would be glorified Father.”

You see, I am learning, being taught, as I write, I pray, I listen, and I put the words on the paper. I make no notes, I prepare nothing before I sit down, there is only one objective, that He would be glorified.

“Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.” (Psalm 57:5)

In my particular case my friends, this is how I am being sanctified, how I am being led, and although I understand the patience necessary in our service to the Lord, I also understand the following verse, and I am in a hurry to get more.

“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” (Psalm 34:8)

I found Him, or He found and called me, both are true, and I have no intention of letting Him go, in fact at times, I may push the boundaries of just how far I should go today.

I read the Scriptures each day, at the moment it is Psalms in the morning, Isaiah and Romans in the evening. I usually am going through at least parts of two books written by men of God who came before me each day. I contemplate His will and His Word, sometimes perhaps in areas that I should not venture into, a little too close to that whirlwind that came upon Job that day if you will, but I am compelled to know Proverbs 1:6.

“To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.”

I am, if you can understand this, in a hurry to meet God Almighty, and when I do, I do not want to stand before Him empty handed, I can handle being simple minded but not being unversed in His Word. I am no “super saint,” I am a cold, callused hardened man with a heart of flesh, there are no shades of grey for me in the Scriptures, its black and white, yea and nay, and what I do not know I do not cast aside, I want to know.

The best phrase for all this is perhaps patient anticipation, holding back while rushing forward, never ahead of Him, but never too far behind. I am like a pesky little fellow that will not leave Him alone.

I stop at times for a few moments as I write, thinking about what has been written, revealed to me, waiting and listening for what comes next. And after the last line, feeling completely drained, poured out if you will, I tell Him thank you, ask that He will bless each letter for His glory, and then get back to the work of seeking His face again.

I really do not know how my lovely wife puts up with me, but she does.

Patient anticipation. Contemplating, listening, learning, reading and studying, wishing most of the time the world was not in my way.

Hurry up my friends, hurry up, in patience, you do not want to hear yourself say, “I wish I would have.”

There are several items I would ask you to consider before you click on the Donate button.

1.    Please pray carefully about donating; “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (2nd Cor. 9:7)

2.    Your first responsibility is to the Lord; “Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase”: (Prov. 3:9)

3.    You must consider your family after your first responsibility; “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1st Tim. 5:8)

4.    If you determine that you have been blessed by this ministry and decide to donate, please know this, your donations will be accepted with great thanks, and all the glory will go to God.
