Paths of Hate

I am going to presume here that the majority of those of you who are reading this letter are mature in your faith, you study daily the Word of God, and are being led by the Holy Spirt on how to rightly divide His truths so that you are nearly always ready to give an account of your faith. 2nd Timothy 2:15 is not a suggestion, it will not be achieved by simply showing up on Sunday morning and listening to the pastor speak, you must open the Scriptures each and every day and not only pray for wisdom to be able to discern His truths properly, but to expound their truths to others.

If you have been submitting yourself to the leading of the Holy Spirit for any length of time, then you know that nearly all that you witness to are most generally polite, but very rarely ask pertinent questions or desire to hear more. It is a rare thing indeed to meet an individual who wants to listen as the truths of our Lord are given to them in love. There is of course more than just one reason why this is so, for instance, their minds have been blinded by Satan, (2nd Cor. 4:4) “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” But if you look closely at this verse, it says that he is blinding the minds of them that believe not, it does not say that he is blinding their minds so that will not believe, big difference. They already do not believe; he is just assisting them by the wiles that he has always used to keep their minds focused on themselves and the world around them.

There are those who have chosen to serve the creation instead of the Creator, “Who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever.” (Rom. 1:25) But again, if you look at this verse, they apparently have some idea of our Lord, for you cannot change truth into a lie unless you know something of the truth. These have made a personal decision to not follow what they know to be right, but have chosen instead a different path, and that path is the path of hate, and they are on this path by their own free will.

Once again the Holy Spirit has brought before me a topic that does not sit well with many believers in Christ, for we are told to hate sin in many places in the Word of God, Proverbs 8:13 is just one of them, “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.” But we do not like to think that those who live a life continuously in sin hate the Lord our God. The word is too explicit, we would prefer “he just doesn’t know the Lord yet,” or perhaps “he dislikes the obedience part” or any other number of explanations that would give them a break in our eyes, anything but saying that the lost hate Jesus Christ.

“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.” (John 15:18) Why do you think that the people that our Lord is talking about here hate these individuals, because they are following Christ, and if they are following and obeying the Word of God and they hate them that do, who do you think that they are in essence hating, the Lord Jesus Christ. Why do you think that some people are so difficult to witness to, even in the slightest way? Because the Spirit just hasn’t convicted them yet, maybe it just isn’t their time to believe? How about this, because they hate the one you serve, that always have and there is a very good possibility that they always will. The gate is very narrow my friends and very few find it.

Self is their only master, pride is their travelling companion, and they need no help from anyone, especially not God. If He does exist, when they die, they will figure it out when they get there, until that point, keep your Jesus stuff to yourself. But why hate Him so much, why is it so difficult if not impossible for them to admit that there is more than themselves, why not study the facts of Scripture and come to the conclusion that He indeed is real, loving caring and sovereign in all matters. Because they have not been called?

In Matthew 22 our Lord tells the parable of those that were invited to the wedding feast, and the one who didn’t even take the time to get cleaned up and put on a wedding garment, this man was cast out into outer darkness. He was called, even invited, in fact he was one of the guests. Just because he was an invited guest does not mean that he was a saved individual, no one can ever lose or return their salvation, but this one did not even give enough reverence to the invitation to show up prepared, he counted it as a light thing. Pride says I am better than you, pride has no ears to hear unless what is spoken lifts the listener up, and pride says I hate you when I find something in you that is better than me.

Satan was cast out of heaven when pride was found in him, pride not only says I don’t need God, it says that I hate Him because I know inside that He is above me, and that is not an attribute that pride will relinquish. “Everyone that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.” (Prov. 16:5) When you try to speak to some individuals about the love that God has for them through Christ, you will sometimes be met with not only disparaging remarks and disgusted looks, but with an open hatred. Ask your brothers and sisters who are suffering persecution this very day for His name. Do you think that if they just keep talking to them that every one of them is in the end going to finally accept the mercy and grace that He freely offers to all? There are a lot of people who have gone to heaven at the hands of those that they also hoped this would happen for.

The world and all those that are in it that are lost hate us because we love him, it is that simple, Christ said it, I am simply repeating His words. It can be very easy to spot the fake Christians my friends, they are part of the world. Most of their friends that they associate with on a regular basis are the lost, their activities revolve around the pleasures of this world, and nearly everyone they know likes them. Why? Because they are not speaking of the One that they say they love the most, wouldn’t want to possibly offend, would we, besides, the Lord will understand. Want to know something? He does understand, He understands that you would rather stand with the world than stand for Him.

If your friends find out that you truly are an obedient servant of the Most-High God, well, they might not be your friends anymore, then all you would have is Christ. They would end up hating you because you have and always will put His will before them, they will be second, and pride does not like second place, but then neither does the Lord God. The decision should be easy, but sadly for many it is not. They have no plans to meet the Savior for a very long time, and when they do, well of course He will understand, after all, were we not just trying to win them for Christ, were we not spending all that time in the world with them just as a front so that they to would come to the knowledge of His saving grace, some people just take longer than others, right.

How many of our Lords pearls have you tossed to the swine? How much dust do you have on your sandals?

As I said in the beginning of this letter to you, I have been intentionally speaking to the mature believer in Christ, not the one who still thinks that they can get by with being a nominal Christian and still walk into His kingdom, which sadly is most of those that I meet these days. There are the saved and there are the lost, there is no such thing as this new classification that has been made up in the last few decades as a “carnal Christian,” they do not exist. If you are still loving in your heart the world, if you are more concerned with what your friends in the world think about you and are afraid you might lose them as friends if you start to truly walk the life of the believer, then you are not hated by the world and you are not saved. The lost hate the saved.

We all must take a stand someday, there will come a day in every true believers’ life that he will need to walk away from the world no matter the consequence to himself and you will do it willingly. Your friends and family who do not know the risen Savior will like you less, seek you out less, and eventually hate you, that is a promise from the Lord. Even if all forsake you, you will still have the only true friend you will ever need, if you still think that you need more than Him, I can’t help you.

2.    Your first responsibility is to the Lord; “Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase”: (Prov. 3:9)

3.    You must consider your family after your first responsibility; “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1st Tim. 5:8)
