Obedience Above Sacrifice

A lot of talk, very little action. That describes the majority of people.

They will make comments on social media sites, speak to those they know and relatively trust, perhaps even go into the streets with others to exhibit their displeasure with the current ruling class, as long as there is a sufficient enough amount of people so they can retain in part their anonymity. They may even attempt to join a particular political party that stands for what they believe, thinking they can make some form of change from within, as they see it, the corrupt system, and for a very short amount of time they may even see some fruit because of their efforts, but it will not last.

Satan is the god of this world, (2 Cor. 4:4) he is in control, under of course the very strict supervision of the Almighty, and so all of anyone’s efforts in this area will be completely and totally useless. “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5) Most Christians look at the long term, their arrival and continuous existence in heaven as the main goal and have forgotten the work that is to be done here. Most will applaud those on the front lines, the missionaries, the pastors who understand that both love and rebuking are required of the man of God who understands the path we are to be on, but they will only follow so far.

The possibility of personal retributions has taken a firm grip on most, and they are content to sit in the pew and listen, but fear to even speak the name of Jesus Christ in public, much less question any on their thoughts about the Savior of all mankind.

Those who want their ears tickled (2 Tim. 4:3) do not want to be bothered with having to obey, they will love only so much, and they will rebuke only in silence, in their minds, or when there is a large enough group around them that agrees with the principles they claim to adhere to. The Lord God only calls those out of the crowd, to come and walk alone with Him, who do not fear those personal retributions, who do not need others to back them up in the truths that He has shown them. “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” (1 Cor. 2:2)

There are very few who have within them the power of the Holy Spirit today, they quench Him, (1 Thess. 5:19) as often as possible, they love the verses, they will speak of them in the proper company, when it is safe to do so, but they will not take the light of Christ and go out into the darkness alone.

Consider the calling of the street preacher in comparison to the one who has a church building and a group of individuals who meet there each Sunday morning. The latter is relatively safe, he knows that all in attendance want to be there, they have come to the so-called house of God of their own free will, they were not coerced or forced. Each Sunday mornings pattern is repetitive in nature, usually expected, without any major changes. It is safe.

The street preacher takes his Bible and goes out into the public, a busy place where many people are, and he begins to speak. Most simply pass by him, some stop to listen for a moment or two, some ridicule and toss items at him as he proclaims the Word of God. “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15)

Most who sit in these pews do not even speak to their neighbors down the street or across the hall about the Lord, taking the Word of God to a street corner or a subway station would cause them to panic. Missionaries are those people that they occasionally put a little extra money into the plate for, those who have received “special instructions” from the Lord.

If you believe your main responsibility is to sit in that pew every Sunday morning, ask yourself this, how has God used me in this last year. “And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” (1 Sam. 5:22)

There are several items I would ask you to consider before you click on the Donate button.

1.    Please pray carefully about donating; “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (2nd Cor. 9:7)

2.    Your first responsibility is to the Lord; “Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase”: (Prov. 3:9)

3.    You must consider your family after your first responsibility; “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1st Tim. 5:8)

4.    If you determine that you have been blessed by this ministry and decide to donate, please know this, your donations will be accepted with great thanks, and all the glory will go to God.
