Not One Or The Other, Both

There are two types of Christians that fit into the category that I would like to bring to your attention in this letter, whether or not you fit into one or both of them, I will let you decide.

The first category is the one that I believe is the most prevalent today, they are those whose main concern is their walk with Christ, are they pleasing in His eyes would be their first and foremost concern. For many of these Hebrews 10:25 is not only a favorite verse of theirs, but an almost mandatory commandment, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

Church is never missed, Sunday mornings are dedicated to the obligation, to the requirement that this verse dictates to them whether or not they truly worship the Most High while they are there is a question best left unasked, but generally, those that feel obligated to perform any task rarely have their entire heart in the matter. This group also, for the most part, still adheres, or does their best to follow the law, at least the ten commandments, strict obedience is the path to pleasing God.

It is in a sense a dual “savior ship,” if you will, as long as they are “good,” God will be good to them, if they act amiss, even for a moment, they may not exactly fear that the wrath of the Almighty will fall upon them, but they believe that immediately they have fallen “out of favor” with the Lord, and so by default,  “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9) is also a highly favored memorized verse to them which is repeated often, and with great intent. Of course, backsliding is also a large part of their vocabulary, their desire to serve is indeed honorable, but that desire does not revolve around the glory of God, but the continuing pursuit of a “holy perfection,” which is not only unattainable here, but not commanded of us in the Scriptures.

The other group would be those whose entire life is devoted to others, many times at the expense of themselves. Admirable, but also not the path we are to be on. Many of those will rush out to help when no help is required, needed, or many times even asked for. They do not see it as intruding into others affairs, but when they are seen walking down the street towards some, those that would be the recipients of this constant help will cross to the other side. Not always of course, but many times these individuals do not stop to see what the possible needs of another may be, they just assume. They will be at your door with items you do not need, they will, in all humility, pray for you without first asking what prayer requests you may need.

They are always present at the after-church functions, with enough food to feed three congregations. When you have no need, they are there, when you have a need, they will not leave. To their face, we attempt to be kind and polite, when they are gone, we hope it will be sometime before they cross our paths again.

The one who would be pleasing in the eyes of the Lord must strive to be in part both of these individuals, there must be a time in the life of the second group to just “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) To understand that we can sleep, for He who guards our soul never does. (Psalm 121:4) Those in the first group must understand and practice more fully intercessory prayers, that the life of Christ was lived for others, not for the betterment of self, to attempt to be more pleasing to the Lord. It is a balance that you not only can, but must pray for, if you truly desire to be Christ-like.

There are several items I would ask you to consider before you click on the Donate button.

1.    Please pray carefully about donating; “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (2nd Cor. 9:7)

2.    Your first responsibility is to the Lord; “Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase”: (Prov. 3:9)

3.    You must consider your family after your first responsibility; “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1st Tim. 5:8)

4.    If you determine that you have been blessed by this ministry and decide to donate, please know this, your donations will be accepted with great thanks, and all the glory will go to God.
