Far too many seem to be focused on a singular item, and it is not because it is the gifts of the Holy Spirit that is heading them in those directions. “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth,” (Psalm 46:10) has left the minds and hearts of many, the church, the body of believers in Christ, as a whole, have gone the way of the media.
Worship services are now programs, preachers speak of the latest current events happening in the world, a never-ending storehouse of basically useless information to some who still desire to learn the truths of the Word of God expounded on with boldness. Others will stay in a chapter of a certain Book of the Scriptures, draining every last part from it, with disregard to all else. There are prayer times, but most generally they are so weak and pathetic they do not get past the ceiling, praise and glorying of the Lord is rarely heard.
There are few that seek the Lord for Himself today, instead they seek at best for themselves, they want to be healthy, they want to keep their stuff, they do not want to be inconvenienced, they have for the most part, forgotten that the Lord God is Holy. “Righteous art thou, O LORD, and upright are thy judgments. Thy testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous and very faithful.” (Psalm 119:137-138) God has been turned into a giver of wants, instead of a supplier of our needs, and our wants grow each day.
Dreams are all that matter to some, false prophets abound across the planet, those that say they have been spoken to by the Lord are deceiving many, and far more easily than ever before, for there are many that are far weaker in their faith than ever before.
I compare many of today’s Christian to the media outlets around the world, what is important today is all that is important, nothing else matters until tomorrow, when they will be told what will be important then. Spiritual discernment is at an all time low, the message from the pulpit are not hope and strength from Christ, but “just hang on.” The fellowship of His suffering (Phil. 3:10) is not something that is expounded upon today, many want to hide from what is not even truly affecting them, but the media outlets say that they should not just be concerned about these items, not just warned about them, but fearful, and these individuals who sit in the pews each Sunday morning can find no rest for their souls, for they have forgotten to be still.
The man who fears to lose his life will fear nearly everything else, they can see no more than what is right in front of them, and our adversary is well versed in continuing to place those objects in their view on a constant basis. There is always something “bad” happening, there is always a new sign to validate those fears they are told to be fearful of, there is always something to be afraid, worried or overly concerned about.
The man who does not fear death cannot be frightened, the man who trusts in Christ, the one who by faith understands the assurance of his salvation, is not swayed by current events, they are recognized as having occurred, processed as useful or useless information, and then the process of seeking the face of God continues. (Psalm 27:8) It is not renewed, there is no need for a revival, the search for the prize that is Christ does not stop because of the “next, new earthshattering event.” There is a peace here that I hope that you will not only understand, but find.
