Isn’t it amazing that we hold in our hands every day a book that foretells future events and so few that we speak to believe us when we speak of them? Even when incontrovertible evidence is presented to them, they still deny the truths of the Word of God.
“And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.” (Mark 4:15)
I understand that a few years ago someone thought they had found Noah’s ark that the Lord commanded him to make, this man even made television documents about this find, in his mind or of a truth, I cannot say. But I can say this, I have never heard anyone say, “Did you hear they found the remnants of Noah’s ark? I had better repent right away and call on the Lord Jesus Christ to save me.”
I have often questioned the faith of those who seem to need some form of historical proof of examples from the Scriptures. It is not to say, nor is it my place with this information alone, to determine whether they are saved or not, but I realize the truth of this verse, “The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17)
What happened after the rock gushed out water, after the people tired of manna and desired meat, after one generation to another in the book of Judges and many other places in the Scriptures? How long before the sight of the actions, miracles if you so desire, or the newest revealing in our times of some historical proof, some validation that the words in His book are indeed truth are forgotten.
How long does it take for one proof to dissipate before these individuals need another one?
“Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)
The Prosperity preachers, the faith healers, from the Roman Catholic cult to the Charismatics, all of them have a sort of timetable as to when the next “miracle,” the next revelation, the next proof must be revealed, or their faith may begin to wane. These fit well into the account of that first seed, as well as the ones that fell on the rocks and into the thorns, they must see to believe, and to continue to believe.
I can only recall once where I asked the Almighty to prove to me He was real, it was the request of one who had only been born-again for a few days, an immature request, but it was answered immediately. I have witnessed miracles firsthand but have rarely asked for one since that day.
The verse tells us to trust in the Lord with all our heart, not our eyes, not with our emotions, to not need miracles or historical facts to lift us up to a plateau we want to remain on.
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
You cannot hear with your eyes and your heart, and along with our adversary’s continuing assaults, each will deceive you nearly every time.
We have in our possession a book that foretells the future, if you cannot believe what it says concerning the days that are approaching, then you will not believe fully what it reveals about the past.
I did not say that we will be able to understand all of it, the Almighty allows each of us to Spiritually discern with the wisdom that He has blessed us with as much as we can digest and understand correctly today. That should be enough to continue building upon what He has already revealed to you.
Our responsibility is not to provide historical validation for their eyes, it is to speak the truths of the Word of God to their ears. God will handle the heart part.
