No Handouts From God

I recall my grandfather telling me about the days known as the Great Depression, and of not only those who would arrive at his doorstep, but of himself after he lost everything they had worked for as well.

My grandmother was a God-fearing woman, full of compassion, my grandfather knew full well the need of hard work to obtain the things of life. Most of the men who arrived at their doorstep, while they still had one, and my grandfather himself after they lost all, would not accept even a crumb from the table of another unless they could in some way earn it.

“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” (John 9:4)

The Almighty does not give handouts my friends, yes, all of our needs are provided for, even the most vile, wicked people amongst us will eat today, will have air to breathe, water to drink, but I ask you to contemplate this. How much of what you possess do you have because of by the sweat of your brow you worked for it, and how much has the Almighty given you solely because you are one of His chosen?

How many people profess to love Him, yet do not speak of Him in public, do not search for the lost amongst the wicked, how many say they have hid His Word in their heart but never voice it aloud to others?

And yet they believe that all they have are gifts from the Lord because He has blessed them with the ability to work, to hold a job, to be employed for financial gain. They claim to reap the rewards of this world by hard labor but spend little to no time striving for those things of the Spiritual world, of the things of God.

“For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.” (Romans 10:3)

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matt. 6:33)

What do you believe would happen to you if you quit your job, if you no longer had any income arriving in your life, and you spent every day, from sunrise to sunset going out into the streets and speaking to everyone you met about the glory of the Living God, about the salvation offered by grace through faith in His Son the Lord Jesus Christ? And then every evening spent pouring over the truths of His Word and in diligent, fervent prayer to be shown how you could be profitable for His glory?

Would He provide for you? Or does this verse enter into your mind?

“For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.” (2nd Thess. 3:10)

The Most High does not give handouts, the worker is worthy of his wages, but how far does your faith go in this regard?

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Col. 3:2)

The days are approaching that will make the Great Depression look pleasurable in comparison, and you may be tested in this manner, thousands of our brothers and sisters who have come before us were.

How much of this world are you trying to hold onto? How much of what you own today do you have an iron clad grip on? How much are you honestly willing to lose, to give up for the Lord? How firm is your foundation of faith if He says, “Follow me?”

“Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.” (Luke 18:28)

If you are looking for a handout from God, you can forget it, if you believe He is going to enable you if your heart is not first set on His glory above everything else in your life, you are mistaken.

To be profitable means effort on our part has been employed.

There are several items I would ask you to consider before you click on the Donate button.

1.    Please pray carefully about donating; “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (2nd Cor. 9:7)

2.    Your first responsibility is to the Lord; “Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase”: (Prov. 3:9)

3.    You must consider your family after your first responsibility; “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1st Tim. 5:8)

4.    If you determine that you have been blessed by this ministry and decide to donate, please know this, your donations will be accepted with great thanks, and all the glory will go to God.
