All by yourself, that’s how you get to walk through this life, all by yourself.
“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.” (Psalm 27:10)
It does not matter how close of a personal relationship you have with anyone, no matter who it is, they will never know everything about you, and you will in no way reveal everything there is to know about you to them. Your spouse, if you are married, would be probably the one that knows you the best, but you have not, probably never will, and possibly never should, reveal every single thought to them that you have ever had.
No matter who it is, no matter how close they are to you, you will walk this life alone.
Now the question for you, you know for a fact that the Most High knows every single thought that you have ever had, but do you take that for granted, or do you discuss those thoughts with Him?
“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Matt. 10:30)
If you are like most of us who have been born again, the first thought that came into your mind about that question were the imaginations of your mind about that draw you but are detestable to you. Thoughts you would never express in words to even the one you love and trust the most in your life here. You would be beyond embarrassed, and that loved one may look at you in a different light for as long as you both shall live.
And so, we remain alone.
At best, you might set up a time to talk with your pastor, after you have sworn him to secrecy, or perhaps set up a time with a counselor of the mind who has never met you before, but even after that, even after your conscience is partially cleared, you will remain alone.
One of my lovely wife’s favorite verses when it comes to the marriage relationship is “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.” (Eph. 5:31) But not totally, we will never be fully and completely one singular entity.
So then, back to the question, those thoughts you will not share with anyone else, do you speak to your Father in heaven about them? As stated, more than likely they are not in line with who He desires you to be, they are imaginations of the mind that are far from what 1st Peter 1:16 tells us, commands us to be.
“Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
Over the years our thoughts are modified, for we are being transformed by the renewing of our minds, but has that transforming by the Holy Spirit brought you to a place where you can openly discuss those things with your Savior, have you used the Lord Jesus Christ, for lack of a better terminology, as the intercessor that He is for us, asking Him, through the Holy Spirit, to help you to be more open and honest with Him?
There is the foundation of the answer to the question posed, there is where you must begin, and He alone can guide you, can help you, can lead you on that path to full and abiding trust in Him.
He already knows you, you probably know yourself fairly well, you realize that He is the only one who will listen to anything you have to say to Him. So why hold back?
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” (Phil 4:6)
I personally believe that these truths are necessary, of the utmost importance, if you truly desire to have a very real personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and I also firmly believe it is necessary before you will hear Him call you, His friend.
