Each time I study the Word of God it is not as if I am searching for some new revelation, it is in the Holy Spirit’s will as to whom and when He reveals the Father to us, and I believe He uses great caution in this area, for we are just as easily led as we are led astray.
I offer again today to you in this short letter two verses for your contemplation, I will not offer my statements as definitive proof, but only in the hopes that, as nearly all these letters do, so that you may look deeply within your soul and judge yourself, for 1st Corinthians 11:31 is a truth. “For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.”
The first then, “So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.” (Luke 17:10)
I have looked at this verse over the years as referring to those who are saved but, as it states, only perform those deeds, those actions that have been commanded of them, the least required by the Lord, but I may have been mistaken. The key word in this verse is unprofitable, that which has no value, and those items that serve no purpose are not counted as worthy to keep. I will not say if the Lord was speaking to those present that day about keepers of the Law given to Moses, this is a possibility, but what I do know in this day is that this verse has been used by many in an almost comforting way, they do not seek the lost, they have not given their entire lives over to the Lord, but they do fulfill the most minor of obligations the Scriptures speak of, not forsaking the assembling of themselves together being at the top of that list. We call them the weaker brother or the carnal Christian, even when they continue in that status over many years.
I offer you though now our second verse, in context of course, again only for your contemplation. “And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matt. 25:30)
This one was given only one coin, but it would not have mattered if he was given five, he was given something but made no attempt to grow or gain from what was given to him, he was counted as unprofitable and cast away into eternal damnation. He was not saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ but had most definitely heard the words of Scripture, resting in the false assurance of his salvation because of hearing, but with no true repentance.
Decades of sitting in that pew listening to the Scriptures expounded upon but never being truly transformed in his mind, living in and for the world and self, while believing to have fulfilled all that was required of him, even to the point of hiding the Word in his heart, but never releasing it to others in the world he chose to live in. Offering back to the Lord only was he was initially given with no gain or growth whatsoever.
Unprofitable.
“But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” (Matt. 13:23)
None with nothing will enter into the Kingdom of the Lord our God, everyone who walks into His presence will come with something gained for His glory by His grace.
Look deep within yourself today my friends, for this is a serious matter, this concerns the final resting place of your soul, and you do not want to be mistaken in this.
