Information, that seems to be the supposed necessity of the days we find ourselves in, and I liken it to slavery.
I am old enough to remember the supposedly important news of several decades ago, and although I can comprehend the implications of a few moments upon mankind of some of them, most, in fact the majority have been nothing more than information, received, calculated, contemplated for as long as necessary, and then discarded. “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” (Matt. 6:34)
It really depends on how long that siege will last, how long the enemy will remain outside the gate, how adamant he is to destroy that which you have.
The information cycle has modified itself to produce fear, both implied and manipulated, the possibility of personal implications are what drive the news media of the day. Fear keeps people on edge, fearful if you like, either in forms of desponding or action. My friends, if you have been blessed with eyes to see and ears to hear, these days are not only expected, but not fearful to us. “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)
Easy words to repeat, not so easy for many to live by.
The news, and I infer here to its totality as it matters, so to speak, on a planetary scale, is meant to produce continued observance, without actually stating it, they say each day that the next day will bring even more clarification to the previous days information, it is a clever subtle trap intended to keep the mind in bondage. If one does not continue to “Tune in,” one may be caught unawares, the terrible days may arrive at your doorstep, and you will not be prepared to confront them.
By the time you read this, there may or may not be food shortages, the economy may or may not have collapsed, another dreaded flu may or may not have begun. But I ask you this, are you personally living in that world of “what if”, or are you trusting Christ?
But I ask you an even more pertinent question, can you trust Him with no news from the outside world? If “They,” as we tend to call “Them” today, decide to turn off the internet, the television and the radio, if all outside forms of communication is removed from you, can you trust Christ implicitly, or will your fear grow exponentially?
How much of what you are seeing, and hearing can truly be verified by you, and how much of it actually affects not only your personal life, but your walk with Christ? What purpose is all this information to you?
The key words they have chosen, covid, war, food, power, how much of this is not under the watchful eye, if not the complete control of the Almighty, how much has it caught Him by surprise, how much of His intended path for mankind has been altered because of the attempts of man, of Satan?
None.
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18) Unless you did not know this, the love spoken of here is not your love for the Lord, but His love for us. If all this supposedly important information being fed to the masses is frightening you, causing trepidation, concern, fear, then you do not understand the love that He has for you. How can you fear in the face of, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jer. 29:11) In the truth of, “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” (Jer. 31:3) Of, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:3)
I am beginning to wonder if many who say they have faith in Jesus Christ actually do, and just how much of that faith is regulated by the news and social media outlets.
I believe we are going to find out.
