How To Kill Pride

“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Heb. 10:31)

This verse does not frighten most people; they may not necessarily mock it, but they will look at it with little regard. It is one thing to not believe in the existence of the Lord God, it is quite another to take Him lightly.

Although those invisible things of God are realistically known in the heart of all mankind, they do not fear Him, they will not honor His Sovereignty over all creation, and it is not because they do not know Him, but because of pride.

“Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.” (Eze. 28:15) Lucifer knew the Lord, he was the covering cherubim, he watched with the rest of the numberless angels as God simply spoke and all was created, he saw His infinite power, yet he and a third of the angels still had the audacity to believe themselves more than they were. That is what pride is at its foundation, the misconception that we are self-sustaining, that the Almighty, even if He does exist, is not necessary for us to continue functioning. And there are those laying on their death bed that will still believe this lie.

Pride creates all manner of self-centered ideologies, and every one of them is a lie, and any life that has its foundation built on a lie will not stand for long. “And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” (Matt. 7:26-27)

You must come to the realization of this truth, nearly every single person ever born, no matter what age of man we consider, has died and gone to hell, and all because of pride. From the days of Adam to Noah, few, not many believed on the Most High, from Noah to the Lord Jesus Christ, few, not many, from the day our Lord was taken up in the cloud to sit at the right hand of the Father until the very moment you are reading this, nearly every single person has died in their sins, gone directly to hell, and will remain there until they are brought before the Great White Throne of Judgment, where every single one of them will be cast into the Lake of Fire to suffer for all eternity.

Untold billions of people who had no fear of God before their eyes, who took the Lord of all creation lightly, who lived under the pretense of the lie of pride.

“And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.” (Matt. 23:12)

You will live with some semblance of pride for your entire life, it will rear its ugly head more often than we would care to admit, the man of God recognizes these moments, and in humility remembers that he is but dust, that he is not sovereign, only God is.

“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” (Prov. 16:18)

That destruction can be diverted, but only by the knowledge and acknowledgment of this truth, that Jesus Christ is Lord. It is a truth that all know, but few will admit, at the foundation of every person is the knowledge of this truth, there is none with an excuse, either today or when they stand before the Creator of those hands, hands that have held us today and will hold those who have believed in Him firmly and in love throughout all eternity.

The answer to pride is humility, humbling ourselves at the mercy seat of the Living God, in all thankfulness and adoration.

2.    Your first responsibility is to the Lord; “Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase”: (Prov. 3:9)

3.    You must consider your family after your first responsibility; “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1st Tim. 5:8)
