You will not receive Spiritual discernment from the Lord unless you are obedient to the will of God, wisdom does not come to all who pray for it, a heart that can discern between good and evil is not given to self-serving, self-centered individuals. If you want truth, you must seek Jesus.
There’s a lot of people who are being deceived, there always has been, Satan has not been sitting back waiting for these days, every day since his fall has in some way been in preparation for his day, the days that he will be worshipped. One can ask for any of these things we have mentioned here, but unless the sole purpose that you seek for them is that the name of God would be exalted above the heavens, (Psalm 57:5) then you are wasting your time. No prophet, no apostle, not even the Lord Jesus Christ sought their own will, but the will of God.
The Lord does not offer these great gifts just to anyone, these are not magic words spoken as a charm or cryptic phrase, they are truths offered, but only to those whose desire it is to become more humble, more profitable. If you ask for Spiritual discernment and you hope to impress people with your ability to expound properly upon the Word of God and the times you find yourself living in, your words will be as one of the fools, and it will take very little time before you are found out.
I can’t tell you how many books I have read, how many people I have heard speak who will attempt to show their prowess in this area, and not one word will be spoken about the Holy Spirit, about humility and servitude, of how we must place ourselves on the sideline, and be ready to serve the Lord in whatever way He sees fit. And there is one other thing that I have rarely seen or heard in this area, “For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.” (Eccl. 1:18)
If you meet a man who has been blessed with wisdom, with Spiritual discernment, with the God-given ability to discern between good and evil, you will meet a frustrated man. The continuous knowledge of unrighteousness brings much grief, the sight of an entire world plunging willingly into the abyss, not once crying out to the Most High for guidance, mercy and grace brings much sorrow. Men who have been blessed with much wisdom are rarely fun to be around, they are not the life of the party.
Micah 6:8 is one of the first steps to a life that is separated from the world, “And what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” You must be able to understand in a humility that many cannot that the Lord God, Creator of all that is, is asking you to walk humbly with Him. God is good my friends, but He is also just, He demands obedience from all His children, and all who obey are rewarded beyond comprehension. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” (Prov. 4:7)
But to obtain wisdom one must first obtain God, one must be willing to sacrifice all for Him, nothing can stand between you and the Lord. You must leave the wisdom of the world behind, for it is foolishness, (1 Cor. 3:19) you must be heavenly minded, (Col. 3:2) and every thought must be kept captive (2 Cor. 10:5) for Christ. God knows the intent of our heart, (Jer. 17:10) you cannot fool Him here. If you want wisdom, if you want life, if you want truth, you must seek Jesus first. And then, believe it or not, all of those wonderful gifts in the light of His glorious face will seem as nothing compared to Him.
