“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.” (Isaiah 54:17)
Personally, if I were you, I would not stand in the direct line of fire of someone who is pointing a rifle or handgun at you, I would suggest seeking cover if the bombs start dropping in your neighborhood. I would also highly suggest you memorize Isaiah 26:3 for those and other similar situations if they appear in your life. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
Unless you haven’t noticed it yet, we live in a sinful, evil world with sinful wicked people who have no fear of God, at best they fear His wrath upon them and will seek Him only when the circumstances of their lives are so adverse that they have no other place to turn. Most of the governments on the planet today have fallen, some willingly, into the traps of Satan and are more than happy to offer assistance to those who will not seek the face of the Almighty in those difficult times, they offer a form of peace and security to the adverse conditions they themselves have brought about.
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” (1st John 4:8)
If you have been born again, you still understand fear, but you look at it differently, fear of the current situation does not haunt you, we do not live with a day-to-day fear that cannot be asuaged, we live in a perfect peace that can honestly say, “Thy will be done.”
“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matt. 10:28)
Our adversary will attack your flesh if he is allowed to, your mind he will assail with every weapon at his disposal, fear and doubt are meant to cause us to lose our peace, fear and doubt will chip away at your faith, your peace will leave you and that weapon formed will cause you much harm. Or it will simply bounce off your armor. Satan very rarely brings a full-frontal attack, chipping away is always more profitable to him, smaller weapons can find their ways through the cracks of our armor, and over time you will begin to doubt, to fear, to lose that perfect peace, if your mind is not stayed on the Lord.
Those who have lost that peace will become ineffectual towards the glory of the Lord, they will begin to focus on the preservation of self, they will stop looking eternally and return to looking temporally. They will stop serving Christ. The weapons formed will prevail against them.
It happens every day, brothers and sisters in Christ begin to worry about the possible adverse consequences to themselves, and they lose that perfect peace. “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Col. 3:2)
Not one of us who has been crucified with Christ can claim perfect peace, but we can stand in the face of fear, red-faced, shaking, terrified, but standing firm for the glory of God and the name of the Lamb. Look again at our opening verse, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace.” Not you, not by your strength, not by your convictions or our determination. God will give you that peace.
We are asked only to stand in the face of fear and trust Him.
