“For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” (Malachi 3:6) Why not? Love.
“Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.” (Psalm 106:23) Because of love.
“Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” (Luke 22:42)
We will never comprehend the love that the Lord has for us, we can see examples of it in our daily lives, we can read about it in the Scriptures, listen to others testimonies, even perhaps feel it at times, for lack of a better expression, but we will never be able to experience the fulness of it for all eternity.
I compare it at times in my thoughts to the love someone may have for an ant as it crosses unseen before us as we fly down the highway at a high rate of speed. “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” (Psalm 8:4) We are not special, anyone of us, in fact anything that exists can be made, undone and then remade a million times in the blink of an eye by the Almighty. We are loved with an everlasting love, those who call Jesus Christ Lord, for we are found in Him, pleasures forevermore have been prepared for us. “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32) He is going to give us as heirs with Christ all of creation, because we are loved.
I cannot tell you why, I don’t believe anyone ever has been able to, I believe in a sense it is like when Moses was hid in the cleft of the rock, unable to see God’s holiness fact-to-face, so to speak, we cannot endure in this life or the one to come the fulness of that love. We can accept it, as much as our feeble frames will allow us to, we can attempt to share it with others by loving our neighbors and even our enemies, but we will never understand the fulness of it.
My lovely wife is the most precious person in the world to me, I have given up my life for her, as she has for me, and although a Godly marriage is the closest relationship that we can have here in this life, it is nothing compared to the Love that went to that cross for us, that left the throne room of heaven to carry the burdens of the flesh for us. It is an impossible subject to write about, but that love compels me and others who hold a pen to paper to try, for it is the reason for the actions of the Lord towards those that are called His children. He loves the unlovable.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us,” (Romans 5:8) is the proof of that. It is the motivation behind all that we do for the Lord. “We love him, because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19) It is an action not required or seen as an obligation. “And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.” (1 Cor. 13:2)
My brothers and sisters, we have no idea how much we are loved, and I don’t think we are ever going to know exactly why.
The wicked will never experience throughout all of eternity even the smallest fragment of the love that we now know, without love, there is no hope, without love life holds little meaning, if any at all, without love we are nothing. The love that we attempt to show to those who do not yet serve Him as Lord is the best we know how to offer, how does one describe the indescribable, how does one speak to another about a subject that we cannot fully comprehend.
But we try, we use the Words of God and let them speak to their conscience, and hopefully the heart of whoever will listen, we tell them of who He is, that His love extends to all who will but accept it. “For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” (1 Cor. 1:21)
Isn’t it sad that the one group of individuals who are trying to bring love eternal into the hearts and minds of all men by the preaching of the Word of God are the ones who are most hated, hated for loving them.
