God Cannot

“But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” (Matt. 19:26)

There is nothing impossible for the Almighty, all things are possible to Him who is the Creator and Sustainer of all that is. And so, as the following verse states, and I have heard and read many say, I do not question the truth of it, but my understanding of that word “cannot.”

“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” (Titus 1:2)

The evil man will point to these two verses as contradictions to each other, in fact, before they were written down for us Satan in form used them in the garden of Eden.

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” (Gen. 3:1)

Either everything, all things, are possible to the Living God or He is not God, He is not the Sovereign, Omniscient Creator we claim Him to be. If He cannot, then He is less than He says He is, and therefore not worthy of our praise or obedience, He would be just “another god.”

If we attempt to say that the interpreter of the Word of God placed incorrectly that word “cannot” in the Scriptures, then we ourselves cannot say His written word is inerrant and infallible, for a little leaven my friends leavens the whole lump. Doubts will arise in other places of His revealed truths, and faith would stumble.

If all things are possible to the Most High, then if He chooses to, He can lie, and I offer this proof, in the inverse of it, that He does indeed choose to at times.

“Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.” (Psalm 89:35)

And this verse as well that speaks plainly to us in these days of the beginnings of sorrows and will be fulfilled in the days of Jacob’s Troubles.

“And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:” (2nd Thess. 2:11)

All the days of David’s life he received nothing but truth from the Lord, God never lied to him, and I personally believe that all who have put their trust in the Living God, who have given their lives to Him, will never once be lied to by Him. But for the wicked, those that will die in their sins, there is a different account.

Sending a strong delusion that causes people to believe a lie can only mean that the Almighty is manipulating the thoughts of those who will believe the lies. It is not revealing truth to them.

To say that God cannot, and it does not matter what topic you place that word in, belittles the Sovereignty of the Almighty, it makes Him less than Almighty.

God chooses not to lie to some, and by default, by choosing not to lie to David, or any of His chosen, He can choose to lie to others. A difficult truth to swallow, especially when Paul, through the Holy Spirit, has said quite clearly that God cannot lie.

Either all things are possible to Him or they are not, and no one would, or should, serve any god who cannot do all that He desires to do.

He hardened Pharoah’s heart, He did not reveal to Pharoah who he truly was, He hardened his heart.

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” (Romans 9:15)

There are no limits placed on the Living God, He can do anything He wants to do, and if we attempt to place any limits on Him, if we ever utter that word “cannot” in reference to Him, we make Him less than what He is, Sovereign.

Is causing people to believe a lie the same as lying to them. There is your question to contemplate today, and for many days to come I would presume.

What He chooses to do He always does for His glory, remember that, but never use that word “cannot” in reference to the Almighty.
