“Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.” (Psalm 71:9)
The things of the world that need to be done I still do, those that I am still able to perform, but as all do who begin to see clearly the sunset of life, the body begins to disobey our will, and no matter the extra effort we apply, it will fail. It is a known fact even in the young, and should not only be expected, but prepared for.
The mind must be willing to accept this fact.
Our Father in heaven recognizes this process of course, and those who have attempted to faithfully serve Him, He has prepared work for them in the closing part of their life. “Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.” (1 Kings 19:18) I ask you this, when you attend your church and its various functions, what do you see more, those with gray hairs, or the youth being prepared to serve? Are fewer being chosen, is the remnant smaller per capita of the planet than it ever has been, are we most definitely in the days of the great falling away spoken of in 2 Thessalonians 2:3?
Those who have seen many sunrises that serve God hopefully are growing in His grace and knowledge, and the wisdom that He has so mercifully provided, and it is clear to us, when all is taken into account that He has deemed necessary to show us, that indeed the age of the Gentiles is coming to a close. As such, we who have reached this point in our lives feel an urgency that many of the young do not know, and it is not because we can comprehend the end of our lives, but the lives of billions of people.
Many men of God over the last few centuries have seen these final days approaching, waiting for the rapture, speaking to all who would listen, warning of the fires of hell that await all who will not repent and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ, but fewer and fewer are willing to listen. Instead, as Satan always does, they listen to the temporary “emergencies” of life, they scramble to provide for themselves and their families, they concern themselves with that which the Lord has promised as if it is their responsibility, and they seek the things of the world instead of the things of God. Just as most of us in our youth once did.
Satan is extremely proficient at what he does. The warnings we offer will go unheeded by most, as they almost always have, Nineveh has no desire to listen this time, it has been in their estimation for too long. We are watching the world collapse, and the majority of people on this planet, even some who claim Jesus Christ as Lord, are still attempting to build their lives in this world, disregarding what some can clearly see.
If you have reached this age then you know when you look back over your life since you got up from your knees at the cross and began to serve the Lord that the most important part of your life was not your own personal growth, but the growth of those that He has called unto Himself through you, the sorrow and pain when you think on those who first you thought were saved, yet went back into the world, the joy towards those who have stood firm and will take your place when the Lord calls you home. Reaching a certain age has its great burdens, but also great joy, for we are that much closer not to our final day, but to our first. “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” (Matt. 9:38)
