“Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” (Eze. 18:4)
I watch people who proclaim to have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ driving well over the speed limit and it reminds me of our dogs when I walk them, tugging furiously to get to the next tree. That tree isn’t going anywhere, yet they are in a hurry to get to it.
Places to go, people to see, things to do, what separates you who profess to be born-again from the lost who rush through life without any thought whatsoever to our opening verse, that all souls belong to the living God, that the end of your existence here is approaching quickly, and so you must move through it as quickly as possible, filling each and every moment with some action?
If there is one emotion I believe can be said of every single person in hell right now, it would be regret, but I wonder, how many in heaven have that same emotion? Much of the life allotted to them filled with what they believed was important, yet had no eternal value whatsoever, feelings of obligations to that which is temporary. Rushing towards their final day, believing it to be far into the future, storing up no treasures in heaven, working for no crown to cast at the Lord’s feet on that day, expecting rewards when none are awaiting them.
Regret lives in both heaven and hell.
Only in their imagination do some fulfill Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
I believe I can say these things in full assurance, that they are the truth, for nearly everyone I meet that professes to claim Him as Lord, rarely, if ever, initializes conversations about the Savior, about the Word of God, about Spiritual matters that concern the eternal, but instead have much to say about the condition of the world and their walk in it.
Again, I can say with full assuredness that every person in hell has said at one time, “I wish I would have,” and I would suggest that nearly all, including myself when I arrive there, will repeat those words more than once.
If you have been crucified with Christ you will stand in the presence of God Himself, but you may not have any rewards waiting for you, there may not be a crown placed upon your head. “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:12) Excuses my friends are formulated by thoughts of regrets.
Every soul belongs to the Almighty, and He has seen fit in His wisdom to allow every single person to stand before Him and offer the reason for their actions in this life, the life that will be behind them then, that cannot be changed. Excuses and regrets, all will offer them.
Are you keeping every thought captive for Christ, do your actions in this life show a hatred of evil, do you work as unto the Lord? “Everything I do I rush through, so I can start something new.”
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10)
I try to tell our dogs that tree isn’t going anywhere, I try to explain to people those things of eternal value, but most just keep tugging, trying to get the next supposed needed thing accomplished.
