Entertaining Unaware

“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Heb. 13:2) Vile and detestable, malformed and repugnant to look upon, vicious beyond compare, causing a man’s heart to fail just when viewed, visages of reprehensible nature. I see no place in the Scriptures where the fallen angels are referred to as such, repugnant creations of the Lord after they were cast out of His Kingdom to this earth, their nature may reflect some of the words written here, but not their appearance, at least not in the Word of God that I can recall at this moment. Every time that an angel appeared in a physical form to a human being they were recognized as human but with subtle differences, the one that came to Mary and the one at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite were not the same angel, and therefore appeared differently, the seraphim are, as best as John could describe in the Book of Revelation not as anything man had ever seen. Satan is described as the dragon, that old serpent, the accuser, and in that same Book he is portrayed as what the Lord wanted John to see, as is the false prophet and the beast, but I contend here that all of those images of mankind of Satan and those who were cast out with him are constructs of man’s imagination, artists attempting to portray what evil looks like. It is only a point of conjecture on my part but is based on the truth of our opening verse, that those who have been born-again do at times entertain angels unaware. What we are shown from the Scriptures, what is revealed in the Word of God is the only truth that we can rely upon, all else in these areas are from the imagination of man. “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” (2 Cor. 11:14) Many believe that this means that Satan can transform the way he appears, that he can, as it is called, “shape shift,” and I cannot either confirm nor deny these words, but in my humble opinion they mean that he is possible of making himself seem righteous, when his intent is far from that, he is the father of lies and to be able to speak a lie, one must be fully aware of the truth. “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” (Heb. 1:14) “Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” (2 Cor. 11:15) One group for the glory of God, one group opposed to the Most High, and we unaware of their presence, unable to visibly see them, so from the words of God we portray images of bright white light for some, and fiery red for others, of beings exuding glory, and others vile and reprehensible to see. Those who were cast out are still angels, although standing against the Most High, they will never return to their first estate. “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:” (Matt. 25:41) Red with a tail and horns, viscous looking foul creatures with long teeth and claws. All that man has envisioned of these angels may be only in the imagination of mankind, images meant to invoke as well as our finite minds can what evil looks like in a physical form. The antichrist will look like a man, as will the false prophet, as for the beast, I cannot say, and I will offer no thoughts on his visage. “They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;” (Isaiah 14:16) Be careful my friends, those angels you may be entertaining may not be from whom you think they are, and if you are not constantly vigil, you may be led down a path that you do not want to go.
