It isn’t going to happen unless you do something about it.
When I have spoken 2 Thessalonians 3:10 to the lost, “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.” I have almost always received a resounding, “No kidding, everyone knows that” the implications of not working are easily seen, you will starve, you will have no place to live.
Satan of course is attempting to alter that truth with the Basic Income Initiatives that are beginning to spread across the globe, something for nothing does not exist though, stipulations will eventually be put upon the recipients of this “Free” money sooner than later, and if one does not obey, then you can starve.
We have, in a sense, a symbiotic relationship to the Lord when we call Him our Savior, if you want to be blessed, you must obey, not a subject that many who call Him Lord today would agree with. They have envisioned a free, easy grace, not one that is costly to them, not one that cost them anything of what they would call valuable. “And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.” (Luke 9:58)
My lovely wife and I do. But why? Because Jesus loves us and wants us to be fairly comfortable, to have food and that to spare, clothes, most with no holes or ragged edges, is it just because we call Him Lord or because we serve Him as Master?
Costly grace takes up a lot of the free time that the born-again believer has, it makes you feel bad when you have thoughts that are not pleasing to God, and you know them to be as such. It removes what we sometimes want to do, it can be extremely inconvenient, and if we do not find joy in it, it becomes more costly, it becomes more repugnant to us.
I have a lot of difficulty discussing anything with people who claim Christ as Lord that believe their lives are still their own, that can speak at length about the current circumstances of the world but can’t hold a two-minute conversation about the One they claim to call their Savior. I see in them this easy, free grace, I see in them the world, I do not see a heartfelt desire to die to self, much less die for Christ’ sake.
None of this costly grace is going to enter into your life unless you want it to, oh circumstances may occur as they always do, but instead of seeing them as a blessing, they will see them as a curse, instead of rejoicing when the temptations happen (James 1:2) these individuals will feel bad about themselves, the grace they have envisioned will be seen as a lost item, for they have become inconvenienced. To serve Christ means to be inconvenienced, it means hardship, “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” (2 Tim. 3:12)
I fear that far too many are simply looking for a handout, or a continuous hand up, they are unwilling to exhibit any real self-sacrifice for the glory of God, they want His grace to be convenient towards the life they have decided upon, not what He wants for them in their lives. It is why much of what they consider “God’s grace” is in their eyes the accumulation of the material goods of the world, in the fact that their day-to-day lives are repetitive in a way that does not inconvenience them. And it is why many of them are unprofitable. If a man doesn’t work, he shouldn’t eat.
If a man does not strive to be a humble and obedient servant of the Lord Jesus for the glory of God he will never understand Psalm 34:8, “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” Serving Christ on our part means being more than inconvenienced at times, it means a life of it, and as He draws you closer to Himself, you will never see it that way again, you will see all that enters into your life as an undeserved blessing, no matter what it is.
