Crumbs

“And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;” (Gen. 3:17)

“For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.” (Romans 8:22)

As Lazarus sat at the rich man’s gate waiting for crumbs, as the woman who said, “Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” (Matt. 15:27) we wait with the earth to stop groaning, we live in a cursed world, and compared to our eternal home, we exist on crumbs.

“Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)

We know with full assurance and believe in faith the promises of the Word of God, yet today, as it were, we subsist on the crumbs of the Almighty, walking on a cursed planet, yet not under His wrath, moving through the darkness of sin that has been here since Adam harkened to the voice of his wife, but with a light meant not only to comfort us, but to show the way to others.

We suffer as the wicked do, both physically and mentally, yet with a hope they cannot begin to understand. And for us who have been born-again my friends, today, in this life, the crumbs are enough.

We accept everything from our Father’s hand with praise and thanksgiving, we care little to nothing of the path the wicked are following, nor how wickedly they are behaving, it is expected, it frustrates us because we know their end if they do not repent, but their path does not amaze us, it has always been so.

“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” (Prov. 4:18)

We expect pain, we expect suffering, sorrow and grief, but we do not hide from them, for we know these things are allowed into our lives for our edification, for our sanctification, for our growth in the grace and knowledge of the Lord. That our trust in Him, our faith in His promises of eternal life in His presence, where joy is full forever will be realized.

And so, for us today, the crumbs are enough.

And my friends, my brothers and sisters in Christ, those crumbs are more of a full course meal than the richest man has ever known, they are more filling than any food the unrepentant person will ever have.

Those of the world are told if you work harder, if you are more diligent at your tasks, if you apply yourself the world will open itself up to you, and offer you all its treasures, and then the wealthiest and most influential people of this world will all know in their final breath that they are the ones who received only the crumbs.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (2nd Peter 3:10)

The manner of men we are to be are those who realize not only what awaits us when we get home, but that today all we have been blessed with is all we need, and those crumbs given to us become precious to us.

Lazarus at the rich man’s gate was content, he wanted at times still of course, for the pain to stop, to not need to be carried, even to have what others had, but not always. He was satisfied and content with what the Almighty gave him each day.

We live in a cursed world, we live in a world of men deceived, and for some quite easily by our adversary, those who are never satisfied with anything less than everything. They are searching for what we have been blessed with, and we have been blessed with the opportunity to offer it to them, to offer Him whom we serve and love to them.

“For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:” (Job 19:25)

The crumbs are not only enough, they are more than enough, and while we wait for our joy to be completely full, the joy that we know today is enough for us to be content in Him.
