“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matt. 4:19)
I personally do not believe that those who are born-again get to make the decision of how we will serve Christ for the glory of God. I believe also that once we realize how He has chosen us to serve Him, we find great joy in that form of service, but in most cases, it is rarely what we either would have chosen for ourselves or even thought of beforehand.
By this reasoning therefore, I also believe that many who profess to serve Christ are not doing so as He would have them to, they may or may not actually be on the path to the strait gate, that is for God to know, but their efforts to serve will never yield any amount of fruit until they submit to His will.
“But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.” (Matt. 13:8)
I have always been a working man, one with many callouses on my hands and scars on my body, yet my only tools to serve Him now are this pen and paper and a computer, nothing even close to what I had envisioned for myself. But as I age and my body some days is racked with pain, I can understand why He was merciful to me and chose this part of the final path for me, and I thank Him every day for it.
“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” (John 15:16)
I believe that one of the great reasons for the falling away of these days that we are going through is just for that reason, some, if not many, of the people of the Kingdom of the Almighty have decided for themselves where they want to serve instead of where He has called them to go. And unless I am seriously missing something here, it seems as if the Sunday morning service is all they believe that He requires of them.
Not forsaking the assembling of themselves together for a few minutes each Sunday morning seems to be, to these I speak of, the entirety of their supposed calling.
I have asked this question of you before and it bears repeating here once again, how many people in your life have approached you and initiated a conversation about the Scriptures, about the Lord Jesus Christ? If this most basic, foundational commandment is not being accomplished by those who profess to serve the Almighty, then what part of the path have they chosen for themselves that they believe He will bless?
“Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” (Rev. 2:5)
I thought I would travel around the nation I live in and build, repair and perform maintenance tasks for Christ-centered churches, the Almighty had different plans for me. So, I ask you this, are you positive that what you believe you are doing for the Most High is what He has called you to do?
“Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” (Matt. 7:20)
Is the fruit of righteousness being produced in your life, or does what you have been doing just make you feel good, are you profitable for His Kingdom, or are you only fulfilling what you consider a “good Christian role?”
This is a topic you should prayerfully consider my friends; a steward is responsible for what he has been entrusted with, realizes the importance placed upon him, and is always positive that what he is doing is exactly what he has been commanded to do.
It has been said that the Lord does not close one door until another one has been opened, our responsibility is to walk through it in faith, not to seek our own will, but His. A servant should do no less.
I offer you this truth, what He is calling you to do in most cases we had no idea it was what He had in store for us.
