How do you know that what you read in your Bible is the truth? I am referring to the King James Version of the Scriptures, although I have owned and studied other versions, it has always been to me the inerrant Word of God, and if you have not done any thorough research on this subject of all the various versions of the Scriptures, then you will not be able to answer the question that was posed in the first sentence of this letter to you.
The question in a sense though is not posed directly to you here, I am stating it in such a way that if anyone, lost or saved was to ask this question of you, how would you answer. You must realize, that if you are asked, you are accountable to give a thorough and concise answer, for in this moment you are being asked to give a reason for your faith, (1 Peter 3:15) you are representing God Almighty with your answer, so this is no time to be feeble with your words, your answer will either draw someone closer to Christ, or it will push them away. So then, what would your answer be.
“I believe in faith what is written is true.” That is good, but how does it draw them to Christ, do you think that this one little statement is all they needed to hear, now they are going to fall to their knees and repent? Probably not. You do not need to go into all the theological views and writings of the Apologetics, though you could begin there, but if you have never taken the time to study on this subject, that would not be possible. Perhaps for some historical documentation would be beneficial, as long as you can show the facts of your discussion, many need to see to believe, not all are called though, and so history, proven or not, will be a dry subject for them, a photoshopped event, if you will.
If you told them of the miracles that have occurred in your life since Christ called and you answered, sometimes this will peek their interest, but then they must know that you are not a charlatan, that what you are speaking about actually did happen, and there was no other viable answer to the circumstance. Many of course will say that you just finally got yourself together, that you pulled yourself up, dusted yourself off, and began a better life. There will always be a reason expounded to you if you continue on this path, most will find what they will consider a logical explanation in your “story,” and if one cannot be found, well, then you are just a good story teller or perhaps a little off your rocker. You still need to come up with an answer, they have asked a pertinent question, and they want an answer, how do you know that what you are reading in the Word of God is really from God and not just a bunch of fables and tall tales stuck together to keep the masses in line, they want you to prove to them that this invisible so-called God you serve is real, and they are not going to leave until you give them as answer.
Should I stop writing here, should I just leave you to your own devices on this subject, would you just hope that no one ever asks you that question, would you pray to the Lord that you would never have to give an account of your faith to whoever asks it of you, whenever they ask?
I learned a very long time ago that some people don’t want an answer, they just want to harass the Christian, bad idea, “For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.” (2 Peter 2:21) So, here is what I do with these people, I tell them that I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and that by faith the Holy Spirit has shown me that what I am reading is the truth, completely inerrant, every single word, and if they want to truly understand how I know this, all they have to do is ask God to show them.
Ask Him any question they want to, but, I say, count the cost, for when He answers, and He will, you had better to be ready to listen, it may be the only time that He even calls you. The truth of this? “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Heb. 11:6) Some of these people will still not listen, and that is fine, I have acted appropriately in the eyes of the Lord, that is all that matters, all they really wanted to do was pull the chain of the Jesus freak anyway, and so I shake the dust of my feet off and move along. But I have seen men come to Christ this way, I have seen a fear in their eyes the next time we have met that tells me they now know for a fact that he exists. In others I have also seen fear, but it is related to in terror, not in adoration and praise. Those folks don’t talk to me at all anymore.
