Blessed or Cursed

“And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” (Gen. 12:3)

The Lord was not just speaking about Abraham specifically here, but of the nation, all of the people that would spring from his loins. They are chosen of God. “Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.” (John 4:22) Jesus was one of those who came from the lineage of Abraham, the salvation of a man’s soul can only come through grace by faith in His name, there is no other path.

The Gentiles are not of this human lineage but have the opportunity to become children of Abraham by faith. “Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” (Gal. 3:6) Not all Gentiles will be saved, nor will all who are of the lineage of Abraham be saved either. “Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:” (Romans 9:6)

The point is this, Israel is God’s chosen, His covenant with them will never be broken, they are blessed and because of that blessing, the people of the earth are blessed, unless they curse Israel. I will not attempt to lift up them above what I should, but it is quite clear in the Scriptures, and can be seen around the entire planet, where there are Jewish people, there is a blessing to those around them that bless them. This is not to say that all of them are rich and powerful, but in the terms that God has stated, they are indeed blessed, yet at this time, in fact for over two thousand years now, they have been set aside. “But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.” (Romans 10:19)

They have known the one true God since time immemorial, yet they have not followed Him in faith, but in works, the following of the law became the standard of their righteousness, not the righteousness of the Almighty. There is a sense of selfishness, of pride in their thoughts, they know they are chosen, but not in the faith that will save them from their sins.

There is much talk about a third temple these days, a desire to begin offering bulls and sheep as in the days of their fathers, they will not hear the truth of Hebrews 10:4, “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.” The yearly sacrifices needed to be continued because of that truth, but they will not accept the truth that Jesus Christ has replaced the law, that He is the only sacrifice that can completely remove that sin.

Some have over the centuries of course, and if you will search out a website called “One for Israel,” you will find that number growing each day, praise God. The nation Israel will survive only because it is the will of God, Jerusalem will be the center of the planet, all nations will come there to offer praise to the Lord Jesus Christ, six thousand years of history will end there.

The largest nations, the most powerful, the most economically sound, all will fall, only one will remain.

Most Gentiles who have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ seem to have forgotten these truths, some have even attempted to place themselves above the children of Abraham. “But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.” (Matt. 15:26) This is still a truth, Israel comes first, and those who are of the seed of Abraham who have called upon the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation are, as best as this poor writer of letters can explain, doubly blessed.

The ground at the foot of the cross is level, Jew or Gentile, it matters not, but the truth of the verse in Genesis stands as true today as it did when it was spoken, bless Israel and you will be blessed, curse them and you will be cursed.

Jesus Christ is the Messiah, there is no other way to the Father but through Him.
