How many books do you think have been written by Christians for Christians on how to be a Christian, and how many have been written by Christians for those who are still lost? Big difference, right, in fact I believe the percentage number would start with a point and then several zeroes.
We really do not think about the lost very much I don’t believe, perhaps in our minds occasionally, but most who call Christ Lord are generally concerned only with themselves and their own personal relationship with Him, next would come close family members, friends, others they believe know Christ, and then on down the line, the heathen entering their minds at the last, and sadly most times not for the salvation of their soul, but because they behave as, well, heathens, lost people.
Have you ever wondered why we have been given the Holy Spirit, beyond of course for our personal growth in the knowledge and grace of the Lord, (2 Peter 3:18) it is for power to stand, He gives us the courage we need not to face only ourselves but those around who despise us, mock us, kill us, but that would not be the majority of believers today, would it, and I use that word loosely here. Sermons are few and far apart today on how to reach the lost for Christ in many, if not most churches, Bible studies are meant to help us grow in our walk with the Lord, not how to effectively witness to a dying world. We have turned in to ourselves, we have become a private, members only club, we have even adhered to the rules and regulations, the laws set up by those who we are to be attempting to reach and locked our doors against those who are searching for the truth in these troubling times.
I wonder what these pastors thought, that the lost were going to tune into their podcast and hear the sermon, a sermon meant for the members who agreed to hide at home behind masks instead of reaching out to a scared and lost world. The truth is never pretty when you see it in the mirror, is it.
Think of it, the bombs are falling, the plague is spreading, the heathen run to the building with the cross on it and find the doors locked, the people that are to be serving at all times hiding in their houses, would anyone doubt the truth that perhaps their faith is weak, that maybe they don’t really believe all those things they have been saying and listening to. Look at Proverbs 24:10-12, “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?”
Is that you, have you locked up the Word of God in your heart, do you keep it well hidden so no one can see it, even if you were just saved yesterday, you can tell all you meet how you met the Lord. Many who have called Him Savior, that say they have known Him for years, even decades, will not speak to the lost on how to come in repentance to the cross, they go to church, maybe glance at their Bibles occasionally, help wrap the presents and gifts once a year for the needy people “over there,” and still have the audacity to believe they are profitable servants of the kingdom.
Here are just some of their excuses, hopefully they are not yours.
They do not know enough of the Scriptures, they believe that reaching the lost is the responsibility of the hierarchy of the church, they invite people to church occasionally, it makes them embarrassed to speak to the lost about Jesus, they do not feel called to witness for Him, they are fearful of being seen as an outsider, of not being accepted, of seemingly shoving Jesus down people’s throats.
These will be cast headlong into the fiery pit of hell, screaming, “I’m sorry,” one after the other, all of them falsely believing themselves children of the Most High. “But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.” (Matt. 10:33) Just who did you believe that verse was for, poor, scared, saved children, or those who are ashamed of His name, those who believe the lies they have covered themselves with for so long.
