Abomination is not a word heard very often these days, neither in public nor from the pulpit, it is perhaps too harsh of a word, too personal, and infers one that has no place in either the secular or spiritual society. One who preys on children, one who consumes human flesh, a person who exhibits no moral conscience in their vile and inhuman actions against both man and beast.
The word abomination was, not very long ago, reserved for such as these in this verse and others.
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” (Eph. 5:11)
Without what I will loosely name the Spiritual society, that word abomination has all but disappeared, it has been replaced with confused, misguided, lost, or at the very most, wicked. Those who sit in the pews, many of whom pay the pastor’s salary, have informed him that it would not be polite, or reveal the love of Christ, to place such a title on anyone, and slowly, over time and with great subtlety, these have been welcomed into the congregation.
In this sense my friends, the correlation is almost synonymous, the Gentiles have been allowed into the temple, even unto the Holy of Holies.
But times change, and fools believe that the Almighty changes with them. They are no longer considered spots and blemishes, they are no longer seen as wicked and unrepentant, all are welcomed in with open arms, and one must consider this question. Is that welcoming into the assembly being done by those who truly serve the Lord Jesus Christ, or by those who are only professing Him with their lips? By those to whom 2nd Timothy 3:5 applies?
“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”
If the former, by a truly born-again man of God who stands behind the pulpit each Sunday morning, then one must contemplate why such an atrocity against the Living God would even be considered. Lack of Spiritual discernment concerning certain texts within the Scriptures? Not willing to ostracize any, for who knows, sitting there they might be reached with the truth. Fear or subservience to those who have long sat in those pews, who have determined that certain parts of the words of God are outdated, that all, no matter what, should be welcomed into what was once considered hallowed ground?
Or is it because those who only profess Him with their lips do not want to take the chance of offending anyone, who see growth in membership as inferring a church serving and accepted by the Most High?
“If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:” (2nd John 1:10)
If we are not even to allow the abomination into our house, why would we not only allow, but invite them into a house of worship?
If these are allowed to sit in the place where you go to worship the Lord Jesus Christ to the glory of God, then you have three options. You can either speak to the pastor, listen to his reasonings and then make a decision. You can pray earnestly and fervently for an answer from the Lord as to what you should do. Or you can simply accept that this is the way it is now, and by default, deceive yourself by saying, “Who am I to judge?”
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;” (2nd Tim. 4:3)
What is an abomination in the eyes of the Lord our God, do you even know? To answer that, in part, you must contemplate at length Matthew 7:6.
“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.”
The swine have been invited into many places, and they are tearing it to pieces. And many simply sit there and say, “Perhaps God will call them.”
