Unanswerable Questions
I like to contemplate occasionally the things in the Scriptures that are not revealed to us, always remembering that when I do, they are nothing more than conjecture, imaginations of the mind that seem plausible, but must also never be seen as truth. False prophets are those who contemplate these unknowns and speak them as revealed truth, religious organizations are born and exist when they do the same. “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.” (Mark 7:13) For me those times are in a way a means to keep my affections on things above, an effort, so to speak, to seek the face of God and His ways. One of those I have mentioned in these letters previously, and in it I believe it reveals much to the hearer how they think about our Savior,

Are You Profitable?
So, you went to work today, you fulfilled every obligation that your employer placed before you, the tasks were completed as required, and that small sense of inner satisfaction, of being useful and profitable was within you once again at the end of the day. Was what you did as important as the surgeon who saved that little girl’s life? As the fireman who pulled the entire family to safety? As the world leader who caused peace between two nations, thereby saving the lives of thousands and averting war? Probably not, at least not in your mind right now. “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15) And so, you obey your Lord’s commandments, with as much sincerity of heart that you can, and then you read that if you do all that you have been commanded to do, to count yourself as unprofitable, and the unprofitable servant is

Why Scourge Us?
“For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.” (Heb. 12:6) Now let’s compare this verse to that one. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1st John 1:9) I do not ever recall being punished, chastised and scourged if you like, unless I did something wrong, or said something I should not have said. I believe, though I could be incorrect, that there is a form of correlation in the following verse with the two previous ones. “Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.” (John 19:1) Pilate found no fault in our Savior, and he knew they had delivered the Lord to him for jealousy’s sake, yet he still scourged the Lord of glory. Few are ever punished simply for the sake of punishment, and so, although many

One Little Word
“Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” (Rev. 2:10) What if you are not faithful unto the end, what if in your final days here on earth the pain is too much to bear, the grief and sorrow too heavy, what if the persecutions cause you to deny Him whom you have served for so long with sincerity and love in your heart? As much as the truth of the salvation of the thief on the cross by our Savior that day, far too many believe that an action, deed or word in their last moments of life can cause all that has been promised to us by the Almighty to disappear,
